Re: 2022-11-18 Update (Network and Storage)

Funny thing, it's very hard to saturate even a modest connection when there's insufficient work to start with (and you're not even running African Rainfall work yet which has massive downloads) and connections are constantly being dropped before the downloads get started. Dropped connections don't produce network traffic and don't saturate your bandwidth, but they do produce lots of stalled downloads for users.

Here's a tip for the trainees they have administering your network:
A hell of a lot of users change the default boinc settings to speed things up. The default is to only attempt two downloads at a time but the client can be set to any number and people often set it for a lot more. Do not assume each client only needs only two connections at a time. Assume twenty at least for your provisioning, and that's just for downloads.

Re: 2022-11-18 Update (Network and Storage)

They need to group/pack the WU package together as 1 file for D/L instead of the numerous per WU now. Each of those files takes a connection so grouping it together would only be 1 connection for that single file. Hosts are powerful enough today that they can handle unpacking them after d/l'ing.

The purpose of WCG is to provide computational help for science projects, not to cater to DC pointwhores...

@Cyclops
Any target dates when WUs beyond COVID and/or MCM will be released?
