Re: July 21, 2022 Update/FAQ

I wonder if this maybe is because of some GDPR issue?

Yes. I'm not surprised that points are going down because WCG deletes unused accounts, which also prevents the credits from those accounts from being reported. This was certainly true before the IBM to Krembil transition, so it's probably still true.

WCG deletes your account after 36 months of not logging into their website or devices checking servers...

Re: July 21, 2022 Update/FAQ

This is crazy bad. We are down since Feb 28 and August is here and yet nothing is really happening other than posting messages in forums. Like, why don't you people have proper planning? This fix as you go approach is a total disaster.

We are all a bit frustrated by the slow progress. However there is a bit of incremental progress periodically. By this time they should be communicating some daily item such as "We worked on bugs in the task scheduler and have corrected bugs "A" and "C", but we are still working on bug "B". Our issues with bandwidth/error correction/validators/personnel/funding/partners/storage/work unit generation/etc./etc. are close to being resolved once we have accomplished the following changes...
Communication is not rocket science, computational biology, or quantum chemistry. It is much more straightforward. Please engage in some.
Thank you.
Cheers

I can understand their not wanting to be second-guessed. But I agree that if they want crunchers to stick in there, they should tell us what is going on.

Otherwise, we will leave and check back in six months or so.

I'm more than happy to respond to cranky uninformed posters, if I have an update to point them to. Some minor progress report to give us some hope. Could your new intern post weekly??

Well, this says that the account gets deleted, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the accumulated "points" totaled (which would be anonymized by that point, I am pretty sure there was a post by Kevin about this, long time ago) are being deleted as well. So no individual stats anymore, all the data totaled belongs now to Johm/Jane Doe, and as such, keep the overall project stats intact. If that got be touched, well, who knows what else got screwed up... sad

+1 A regular weekly communication on progress, or the lack of it, would certainly help keep everyone on board. As it is, the tone of posts is getting more frustrated & cynical.

Re: July 21, 2022 Update/FAQ

i kinda gave up on it ever coming back to its former glory at this point. probably lost so many users that it's not going to get as much done as forcasted.

I'd be livid if my 2004 account was deleted just because life got busy and I hadn't logged in in 3 years. I'm not in Europe and don't wish to be bound by their policies. And yeah, I read the part about the e-mail notification, but e-mail isn't perfect either, and I've failed to receive e-mails many times.

There should be a flag that is essentially to "never delete my account."
