For a few weeks, I have been starting to get work units at a reasonable rate now, and although there are still some 'transient http errors' these now seem to be much less frequent than they were (fingers crossed!). So if WCG have started to get on top of the various issues and the systems are getting more properly reliable, that's definitely a step in the right direction, and one to thank the techies for!

I also made the experience that since yesterday, almost no transient http errors. However, almost no tasks for download |

However, almost no tasks for download I now got a few tasks, and again they were digging out old tasks from last year for which one gets only some 200 or 300 credit points. By now I am not sure whether it makes any sense to continue here - they seem to feed us with old tasks just for sake of sending tasks once in a while. Honestly, I don't like to pay constantly increasing electricity costs just for useless GPU work. |

It's kind of dead when it comes to new work. At least OPNG, which is the only tasks I'm requesting.
Please project admins, don't reply with anything containing the word "soon". That word has been used so many times now, that it lost its true meaning. |

Honestly, I don't like to pay constantly increasing electricity costs just for useless GPU work. Nobody likes to pay more for electricity. If you know anybody who does, I'd like to meet them and ask why. And, how do you know the GPU work is useless ? It may be possible they are doing more iterations in order to refine the results. Edit: If they truly are running the same units for which they already have valid results, I would want to know why. You have a good point about not doing busy work. Cheers

Cheers I've just been through my various log files: the highest OPNG batch number I saw pre-hiatus was 0149788; the range of higher batch numbers I saw on the [partial] restart were 0152693 to 0156572, and once we appeared to have exhausted those (apart from retries!) the lowest "old" batch number I've seen is 0150109, the highest 0150646 (as at end of 15th September). If anyone can provide evidence that the jobs in those higher "old" batch numbers are repeats, I'd love to see it[1]... We had out-of-sequence runs for OPNG back in the IBM-WCG days as well (the stress tests - late April to early May 2021). Of course, the difference there was that we knew about the stress test :-) If the reason for a break in sequence is a special target, that may not get an announcement (or did I miss it?...) Cheers - Al. [1] As I can only see the make-up of work units for which I've processed a task, I can't be sure that the fact that I can't find evidence of obvious repeats means there are no repeats... |
