Maybe it's best to just abort them. Sure, but even newly downloaded units show this behaviour, too. So the only "workaround" would be to stop requesting MCM workunits? |

I'm not a MacOS user so I can't really help. I guess you could start by doing a project reset. Other than that, I can't really help. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

This is the problem that brought me back to the thread. I had upgraded the OS a couple of days earlier but hadn't noticed the problem until yesterday or so. Like I already wrote, I don't want to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what's wrong with WCG (and the problems with various projects have caused me to drop them over the years).
----------------------------------------Not sure if it might be a helpful piece of data, but there was actually one MCM task that was over halfway finished. Apparently it stopped making progress when the new OS was installed. I nuked it manually after various lesser fixes failed. Anyway, right now the Mac seems to be happily running OPN tasks. I should note that I haven't noticed any problems on the Windows 10 boxen, but I'm not paying much attention to them just now. Not running BOINC on any Linux machines just now. For the time being, I have changed the device settings to only accept non-MCM units. The downside is, that it decreases my chances to catch HST units from virtually zero to exactly zero.

More no-progress MCM tasks on the MacBook Pro. Almost certain it's a problem of the new version of the OS, but I also see the similar problem on the Windows 10 machine where I first originally noticed the problem (with three long-running MCM tasks now).
If anyone is reporting any research results based on such buggy code... Only able to check one other machine just now. It's a Windows 10 machine and doesn't seem to have any problem with MCM. Makes me suspicious the problem might be related to the graphics chips. |

Another user reporting MCM issues after a MacOS update.
----------------------------------------I sent a ticket to WCG asking them to take a look at this. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Just confirming that I checked a couple of other Windows 10 machines, and none of them seem to have the long-running MCM tasks. The machine that gets them is an oldish Toshiba desktop. Probably originally Windows 7. Not that frequent, and I haven't noticed any since the last trio about five days ago.
----------------------------------------There's another report of the Mac problem in another thread. His description of restarting matches what I'm seeing and what has been reported here by someone else. At first I thought it might be the same problem, but now I'm leaning the other way. But if it's multiple bugs, that casts even deeper shadows on any research results based on these calculations. [Edit 1 times, last edit by shanen0 at Nov 1, 2021 10:56:42 PM] |

From your description and your experiences the problem with the long running or stuck units appears to be machine specific, and not a problem with the code in the application. Because each result needs to be verified by another machine, I believe the conclusion that there is doubt in the results is not valid.

Cheers At least the work units I checked were crunched by a wingman on macOS Big Sur or another previous OS. Though, the one aborted WU left in my results list has been crunched by one fellow Monterey user. I'll give it another try. Maybe, the failing work units were downloaded before upgrading. |
