Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Kind of miss the GPU WUs. Other than it blocked an African Rainfall Project unit from running.

I am new and just a casual supplier of CPU/GPU power. But the GPU test increased my throughput scoring to over a million a day!?! That is up from a few hundred per day before and since that.

GPUs will do that. But only a few hundred a day of CPU work on a laptop like that? It must be throttling heavily. My (desktop) Ryzen 7 1700 can crunch about 10000-12000 a day (BOINC credits, multiply by 7 for WCG points). During the stress test, my 960, reconfigured to run two GPU tasks, boosted that over 300000 per day. Yeah, I'd love to have a newer GPU, but that ain't happening until (HA HA OH WOW) prices become reasonable again.

An additional concern on that front: Nvidia is crippling newer GPUs to extract more real money from crypto miners. How that affects other OpenCL or CUDA stuff will be anybody's guess.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

it wont effect OpenCL, CUDA, or even other forms of GPU-based cryptocurrency mining (besides ETH). at all.

it ONLY targets the ETH algorithm. if you're not mining a coin with the ETH algorithm, you will see no reduced performance. this is exactly how it works on the RTX 3060.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

the stress test ended at 41773. all of your tasks are beyond that. these did not start during the stress test, they were only just sent today.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

The credit system appears to be the same (longer run time and lower granted credit per hr) as the tasks sent out during the gpu stress test. Not that it matter much to most people.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Yeah. I do regular work on my laptop and throttle it to 40% to BOINC. If I am doing something with graphics, I make the GPU unavailable for a while or suspend processing.

Like I said, I am kind of a 'casual' supporter. I am willing to help but want my laptop to be responsive to me when I need it.

Well, it sucks for sure...because it matters to me.
