Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

No problems knreed. I hope the damage done wasn't too big.

Edit: and as expected, we're now back at the 2000 tasks/30 minutes limit, and of course:

32164 World Community Grid 2021-05-04 21:40:52 Reporting 1 completed tasks
32165 World Community Grid 2021-05-04 21:40:52 Requesting new tasks for NVIDIA GPU
32166 World Community Grid 2021-05-04 21:40:55 Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
32167 World Community Grid 2021-05-04 21:40:55 No tasks sent

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Law of unintended consequences:

Now that I know OPNG can very effectively process on graphics cards pretty much at will, that significantly devaluates the scientific worth of CPU contributions to OPN.

To optimize scientific value to all WCG projects, it seems I should limit my CPU tasks to only the other WCG projects.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Seeing as a RTX3070 can crunch throught a WU in less than 10min (instead of 2h with CPU), I kind of agree.
Especially since I also contribute to Africa Rainfall Project, with WU taking 13-15h to crunch...

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Not only can a modern GPU crunch through a GPU WU in minutes, but the GPU WU contains sometimes hundreds of "jobs" while the CPU WU only contains a couple of "jobs", and takes sometimes 2 or more hours to crunch.

So, it's not only minutes compared to hours. The GPU does hundreds of times more "jobs" than the CPU does, in a fraction of the time.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

I still have a lot of GPU work units that were part of the stress test so i will be crunching those work units

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

The kitties shall be munching on the 'stressed out' WUs for quite a few hours yet also, before they get back to the 'old grind' variety.
Munch munch munch.

I also still have about 200 waiting for my GTX 1660 to crunch, but it got distracted with a random GPUGRID task that will take 27hrs to complete. wont be back to the WCG tasks until tomorrow.

I think we all have learned a lot, and maybe done some good in the process.
