Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Yes, it's kind of terrible at the moment, and mouse abuse is the solution laughing
Edit: Even the forum, and the entire web site is full of molasses.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

I just got a lot of new workunits for my GPU, so the problems seem to be resolved.

that's what I had though before, too; but then the download problems started again.

I think it is because everyone ran out of WUs and requesting them all at the same time, should ease out soon. I ran out of WUs on my fastest machine too, full disclosure: I succumbed to editing the app_config.xml and run 16 concurrent GPU jobs on 2 NVIDIA cards and that does not even 'fill' them totally, but my main CPU does not have more threads so it will have to do, I also stopped processing iGPU jobs, it doesn't seem worth it in comparison to the NVIDIA cards (if iGPU is all you got or circumstances differ, go for it...).

The embarrasing thing is I'm now racking up so many points in just a few days it's a big percentage of the points I've been gathering during about 15 years of contributing to WCG...

It may be hard to go back to 87 point / WU for a CPU job compared to 1600 for a GPU job that also completes within a fraction of the time.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Also with this machine now running GPU jobs only, the CPU graph has become a total sawtooth, it's an Intel i9-9900K and when the CPU usage drops, the frequency goes up due to turbo boosting, it's a spectacle to behold, when some cores are idling, the other ones get more juice and it goes up and down all the time.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

It's as if they turned on the 30 minutes schedule for tasks, but full bore every 30 minutes for a while, and then nothing for the next 30 minutes....

Strange...

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

One thing that I think could improve this issue with the next version of OPNG: pack all of those dozens of little files into a ZIP. Transferring one big file instead of dozens of little ones means that many more fewer requests are being made to the server.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

When the stress test began, uplinger said it would go back to the previous 2,000 tasks every 30 minutes.
sad sad sad

Some are adjusting the app_config.xml to run 10 GPU tasks concurrently on one computer.
If we go back to not many, I might as leave this alone at 1 GPU per computer running (default).
