Re: Smash Childhood Cancer Beta Test - Sept 8 2020 [ Issues Thread ]

I got 2, both valid, on Linux 64bit. Did see a factor two difference in computation time (half an hour vs one hour).

Beta validators are hardly ever on when a new beta starts. They do a controlled run when lots have returned and a validation rerun if the initial validator proofs wonky.

Would prefer you put that in the announcment that your are sending out the units rather than on page 3 of the comments.

Re: Smash Childhood Cancer Beta Test - Sept 8 2020 [ Issues Thread ]

Is 7.17 for Linux re-compiled with newer glibc/gcc?

I had no issues on any of my devices (Windows + Linux) but just curious on the Linux aspect. Thanks!

I think that it's largely assumed that Beta participants are somewhat familiar with the processes involved. As with all assumptions, this can sometimes be erroneous.

Indeed, the validation process of the Beta test is different and it is supposed to be well known by the participants, especially by long time contributors.
Cheers,
Yves

Suggestion to uplinger: Put a line in the read-only announcement posty of a new beta that validator(s) will be switched on when enough results have collected for a controlled inspection (or whatever ther phrase is you'd call it).

Why: 1 line kills so much wasted discussion and explaining and re-explaining to those who don't read the beta issues thread.

Thank U

I like the suggestion. I will try to do that in the future.

Thanks,
-Uplinger
