uplinger wrote at Sep 8, 2020 8:40:43 PM: No problem here as long as we get credit for the work. We are starting a beta test with 100k work units. 2.5 days later and still getting BETA_SCC1.I can't imagine, that those 100k (probably 200k tasks) not have been distributed yet. I'm still getting lots of them. What's going on ![]() ![]() There could be a couple (more likely more) possibilities; 1) The number of Beta testers has shrunk considerably (I can recall people getting all 'hot under the coller' at not being able to get any Beta WU's), or 2) There's more than the 100k (200k+ individual) WU's in this stream. Some more possibilities: 3) The priority of workunits in this BETA-run differs from (most of) the other projects 4) The distribution of workunits in this BETA-run goes in (small) bursts. As pointed out, as long as they keep coming, we'll keep crunching ![]() So, for this let me help: 1. Not really, lots of people want beta still :) 2. Best case, it was 100k workunits and 100k results. However since every host is considered to require a wingman for a new application version, 200k results was worst case. I say worst case because it requires the most CPU time spent from our volunteers even though for those hunting badges this may be considered best case. 3 & 4. So, we have a feeder which basically loads up ready to run work units to make the scheduler run very fast. What this does is it creates a list of available results to send to members. Say we have the feeder set to 1000 total results (ALL projects combined). The beta is usually set to weight of 1, which means they may only get 5-10 slots on the feeder. The feeder tries to reload itself every 5 seconds, this is a cause of things being distributed over time for this beta of 100k work units. IF a member has beta selected, then the scheduler gives this priority over other projects IF there is currently work on the feeder (remember that 5 second reload time). Hope this helps explain a bit on things, thanks again for your help and interest in BETA -Uplinger |

Hey Crystal, My numbers were actually the result table. As for the 35k that is estimated, this could be that once a host returns a few successful results, then they don't require a wingman. The wingman is only created at the time of the result being assigned to a host. This means at first everyone requires a wingman, but since there were lots of work units to be sent out, some members on later results may not have needed a wingman. The wingman is created instantly into the result table. Hope this helps. Thanks again! -Uplinger Hello Keith, I don't understand how we could have successful results with a validator OFF I suppose all BETA's have a quorum of 2 (at least). |

Hey Crystal, You are 100% correct. With the validator off, you can't be considered reliable. I had thought all 100k were fully loaded into the grid. Since nobody has been validated, nobody has a fully successful result on their host app version designation, which makes nobody reliable and everyone requires a wingman. SO, I looked at the rest and it appears that we have plenty still in an Indexed state. 16329 SCC1_0003925_CREB-A I 83670 SCC1_0003925_CREB-A L An Indexed state means that the work units have been fully built and are ready for BOINC to Load them and be ready for sending. Since the entire batch was not completely loaded, I will see what got hung up and try to fix it. This should release another 16,329 into the work unit table, and since ALL validators are currently stopped while I'm doing more system checks on the backend, it should create up to 32k results to be sent. WITH that said, I plan on starting the validator when I start up the rest of them. I do not have an ETA on that at the moment. Edit Correction: I can not load the remaining work while everything is turned off, so the remaining 16k will be loaded when everything comes back online for the backend. This means with validator probably being turned on, I can not guarantee 32k results to be sent Thanks for checking my statements :) -Uplinger [Edit 1 times, last edit by uplinger at Sep 11, 2020 9:57:27 PM] |

BETA validators have been started! Also, the remaining of the work has been loaded. Thanks again, -Uplinger Thanks Keith for keeping us informed and thanks for your hard work during this late evening shift ![]() Since the validators were catching up, from the remaining 16k workunits some had quorum 2, but the most already got quorum 1. Have a good well served rest! |
