Problems with setting WU cache

Hi,

Am having troubles setting or changing the WU-cache in BOINC, regarding the number of workunits I keep on PC.
I can choose between local preferences or web prefs, but changing between the two doesn't make any difference. BOINC (or here at the website for web prefs) state that any changes will be in effect at the first time the programm contacts the servers.
But nothing happens if I change the numbers...

I'm running (among a few other PC's) an AMD 3950X, of which at this very moment 20 logical cores are crunching, while the other 12 are looking at my interior sad
Asking for work by pressing the 'Project update' button only generates the message that therre is no new work. I find that very hard to believe.

Weird thing is that a few days ago I had about 150 WU's in my cache. Now i'm short on WU's.....
I want to have WU's in cache, because I want to avoid the current state (many cores idling and not doing anything). And to avoid this in case of an outtage.

But as one can see I can press many buttons, but nothing changes.

Am using version 7.14.3 in Win10.

Re: Problems with setting WU cache

These would be understandable as there is little work available:

7-5-2020 18:35:03 | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Smash Childhood Cancer
7-5-2020 18:35:03 | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Help Stop TB
7-5-2020 18:35:03 | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for FightAIDS@Home - Phase 2

But MCM work is available as I just got some on my computer. MIP work is likely also available.

Have you tried it again?

Re: Problems with setting WU cache

Your log says which device profile is associated with the device. If none was set it will use Default. The one shown in the log is the one you have to modify.

Possibly you need upgrading to 7.16.5 if you're also using the app_config.xml to control the number of running tasks for each science. In some instances this can lead to resource starvation i.e. idle threads.

Re: Problems with setting WU cache

I have no idea. Have you run out of work yet? If so, try a project reset.

Re: Problems with setting WU cache

I run these successfully on my systems... and note BOINC will take about 2 weeks to balance out your System capabilities vs cache amount of tasks.

Store at least 0.5 Days of Work
Store up to 1 additional Days of work

Re: Problems with setting WU cache

I noticed the same on my two machines running WCG (one Windows one Linux). Both of them claiming no new tasks available since the last day or so. The same as mentioned by DE KOMETEN.
I've upgraded the Windows-machine to the latest WCG version 7.14.3 over a week ago, but it worked out fine after this upgrade. The Linux machine runs fine for more than a year already.

Re: Problems with setting WU cache

I did reset the project (thnx for that tip).
I have enough WU's again. Thnx for the help and your comments.

Stil think this cache managing needs an overhaul. It doesn't work very well.

My 3950X processes an avg daily number of WU's between 300 and 450, so I'm fond of a cache of about 2 days. (My PC's run 24/7/365).
