Hello,
----------------------------------------I run boinc client on Linux Debian home server and the client clogs syslog approximately every second (!) with useless messages like "boinc[931]: No protocol specified". Exact process number may vary. How can I prevent this behavior? I googled and found no solution so far. Appreciate your help! I would not want to remove boinc client from that server. My guess is that your BOINC tries to contact the X server for idle detection. In BOINC Manager: Options → Computing Preferences → Computing, do you have any box containing the text 'in use' ticked, e.g. "'in use' means mouse/keyboard input in last ... minutes"? Untick it.
(see https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/issues/2256#issuecomment-352937462) For Fedora users: Try to update BOINC to the latest version 7.16.6 - it will disable / remove idle time detection. See also https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1822723. |

Many thanks adriverhoef! I unchecked all relevant "in use" check buttons and annoying boinc log messages have gone. Great advice! Thank you once again.

Unfortunately, noticed that junk messages continued to waste my log after some time. So the workaround didn't help.
