Do we have a better ETA than soon..? Some like myself have brought more compute online to assist know this is coming but have been waiting a while so a more concrete ETA would be nice or we will start looking at alternatives over OpenPandemics.
Realise this is a very complex process in developing the project and ensure it works as required so good clear communication is important as remember we are donating compute cycles here to assist your project.. |

snmp,
The project is in beta testing, which is the final phase of testing before launch, but we don't yet have a more specific ETA on launch. Thanks for your continued support. Juan |

One should be able to select beta testing as a project on it's own. I would like to compute for the beta tests but it's not possible without computing for another project. I know they are all important projects but I'm only here to help fight this Pandemic!
P.S. I'm emptying my Rosetta and FAH queues to have all my resources available for OpenPandemics. Really hope we can start crunching those tasks asap! ![]() |

If you don't regularly send results, the scheduler will not select your machine for Beta work. The machines must be qualified as being reliable and the machines will only be able to fetch some Beta WUs if they are reporting and asking regularly for new jobs.
----------------------------------------Emptying the queue is totally inappropriate in this specific case. Cheers, Yves --- By the way: until now, SARS-CoV2 killed significantly far less people than the other diseases concerned by the other WCG projects, i.e. your contribution will be always welcome. |

Well I just wanted to contribute but this makes perfect sense. Thanks for explaining that! I'm not claiming to be a grid computing expert. Emptying the queue is totally inappropriate in this specific case. Cheers, Yves Emptying in the way of finishing up current WU's and don't get new jobs. What's inappropriate about that? --- By the way: until now, SARS-CoV2 killed significantly far less people than the other diseases concerned by the other WCG projects That's actually a bit lame throwing that in my face. ![]() |

Emptying in the way of finishing up current WU's and don't get new jobs. What's inappropriate about that? As in - if your queue is empty and your devices stop doing work, projects that need resources will lose out? (eg: the ones that focus on older diseases that KerSamson referenced) Either that, or they thought "emptying the queue" referred to aborting the tasks and making immediate room available to this new beta project - which is unwarranted at this time, and is at the detriment of existing projects. ![]() |

My thought is indeed that Yves was implying I aborted my WU's. That is not what I did. P.S. I'm not a full time resource for the community grid. I just want to donate my idle CPU time (and the power it consumes) to find a vaccine against SARS-CoV2 or cure for COVID-19. That's about it. |

Any computational power is greatly appreciated, Oh4ccidentalMeow :)
----------------------------------------May I suggest you set your preferences to allow other projects in the meantime if you're looking to donate idle time in the lead up to the project starting too? :) Even if you just pick one, and then opt into new projects as they come available (then when OpenPandemics is here, you'll start crunching that as it comes available and you can pause on other projects should you wish). Doing this will also likely increase your chances of some beta workunits too! Chris ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ok I'll crunch for the Microbiome Immunity Project while I wait and opt in for beta.
