Thanks for the thought but nothing else is running except for me typing this. Nor has it since well before the problem, except for Einstein on GPU (plus 0.5 CPU thread).
However I am about to do some other work so will check if that is the problem. It would be strange if 7 threads failed simultaneously leaving only one. Mike |

I can now report that the elapsed time kept going while I was transferring files from one external drive to another. It doesn't seem to be down to 1 thread.

You could use System Monitor / Task Manager, call up the list of processes, then sort by %CPU. That will easily show you what else, if anything, is hogging CPUs and, possibly, how many threads the system thinks it has to schedule tasks on.
But I did wonder, if you're running another project as well as WCG, if the other project might be hogging multiple threads as well as the GPU. I also wonder if changing 'Switch between tasks every' in Computing preferences might trigger a change of behaviour. I don't personally run anything else, so I'm not familiar with this area. I hope someone else can suggest something. |

Task Manager shows 13% against mcm1 (12.5% rounded up) and a fluctuating amount between 0% and 1% and nothing else.

The only thing that I can see of interest is that app_config does not appear, but someone may spot something that I cannot.

You set max cpu on your preferences from Einstien@home. The client uses the preferences from the last updated project preferences. This means that if you make a change to the WCG preferences, you may have to do something as small as save cpu % in custom profile to 75%, then save, then back to 100% and save. Once that is done, you'll need to force an update on WCG for it to use those settings.
Hope that helps, -Uplinger |

Thanks, guys. That did it, The multiprocessor % had slipped from 100 to 10. I didn't realise that changing something trivial in Einstein would have that effect. I am only doing Einstein because WCG don't use GPUs.
