Suddenly all but one threads stopped running. I was running 5 mcm1 and 3 mip1. The unit running has been alternating between the 2 projects, completing some units so I now have 1 mip1 running, 1 mip1 waiting and 3 mcm1 waiting.
I have been using app_config for years to control the numbers and this did not happen as a result of any change to app_config. Any ideas, please? Mike |

The first thing I would do is reboot.

Rebooting made no difference but thanks for the reply.

Currently 1 mcm1 running, 2 mcm1 waiting to run, 1 mip1 waiting to run and 3 of each ready to start. The totals conform to Device Profile.

Only thing I can think of is that you accidentally changed a 'max_concurrent' to a 'project_max_concurrent' and didn't notice.
But is it worth renaming your config file(s), re-reading them (to see if you get back to 'normal' OK), renaming them back and re-reading them once again? It might help to narrow down where the issue is. |

A good thought, thanks. However it didn't work. App_config was correct but I renamed it and deleted the original and then read config file, but nothing changed. In case there was a vestige of it remaining, I restarted my machine and the event log made no mention of app_config, whereas it would have done if it had found it. Still only 1 running (mcm1) and none waiting to run as they have all been finished. It has been keeping me topped up to 6 mcm1 and 4 mip1. I still have i mcm1 ready to start from before the problem started, but I should be asleep when that finishes. Mike |

Try posting the last couple of pages of the event log.

Sorry, I can't because it has been rebooted. I only have the last 16 minutes.

If the machine is running 100% busy but only one WCG task is running, that would suggest that the other processors are busy on other non-WCG tasks. A re-boot might not fix it because those same tasks might start up right after the boot process. Another thought would be that the number of processors has been changed in some way. Either the BIOS took them offline or something like the cc_config ncpus option got set wrong. If the machine isn't running 100% the the processors are probably still recognized but not being dispatched to the WCG tasks (app_config). Just speculating

Did you update to BOINC 7.16.3? I have seen it do everything from downloading way too many work units, to leaving some cores free.
