In order to get my bronze badge for ARP, I did a lot of baby sitting by filling my 0.5 day queue up with MIP and then shutting off the MIP and having only ARP selected. I would get 1 ARP every day or two. Once I hit 14 days, I stopped the babysitting and ran MIP and ARP together and I have not gotten a single ARP in over two weeks. I'm just hoping that there will be more ARPs coming so I get more but I am not going to baby sit any more on this. One can only hope.

There are lots more to come because we are only crunching days 3 & 4 out of a whole year.

All those units previously mentioned have now gone and the CPU time was about 29 hours presumably due to running 7 or 8 at a time (only 8 threads). I now have 2 replacements and the estimated time is now down to about 20 hours with 6 msm1 units as well.
So it is not so efficient using all threads on arp1. Better to run a mix. As a bonus I now have 2 arp1 units on my laptop which only works part time and takes 48 hours to complete a unit. The first on that machine for weeks. Mike |

@Mike.Gibson Set my cruncher up as you suggested in your post of 25 Dec. Happy to say have now had a slow but steady stream of arp1 Wu and now have achieved Bronze. Thanks for your advice

gb009761, I'd like to try that. I'd have nothing to lose. Are these settings that you use set up in the web page or on the BOINC program on your specific computer? Thanks
----------------------------------------Edit: I think I found it under Device Manager which took me a bit to stumble upon. Thanks [Edit 1 times, last edit by tmedve at Jan 2, 2020 1:12:23 PM] |

There are 2 ways to limit work. The first restricts the number of units of each project that you can hold in cache and can be found near the bottom of the page when you click on 'Device Profiles' when in the Tasks page. Keep the cache levels low in there so that it replenishes more frequently. I set the cache to 1.5 plus 1.5 The second restricts the number that actually run. That is a module called app_config.xml which can be stored with all your units, probably in C:\programdata\BOINC\projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org A combination of the both works best. If you would like a copy of app_config please let me know and I will email it to you. Please say how many threads you have available and which other projects you wish to crunch. Mike |

Thank you gb009761. I tried what you said and this morning, I found an ARP1 in my task list. Very easy to do and to change back when things change.
And, thanks to Mike.Gibson for the suggestion. This is also good to know but to me seems a bit more complicated than simply changing profiles. I'll save this for possible future use. Tom |

I had good results with selecting both MIP and ARP to fill a 2 day cache, then turning off MIP requests. This kept the systems busy and when I got ARPs, I suspended MIPs to bump the ARPs to the head of the line, then re-enabled MIPs (you don't get any downloads when any tasks are suspended).
This worked quite well in the past - now FAH is back in business, but with limited WUs. The combination of limited WUs for FAH, ARP and HST seems to be enough to keep the systems from running dry now, without any need to manipulate the queue. Be aware - FAH doesn't play well with others and you may see it frequently running high priority due to its shorter turnaround time. |
