With Christmas, New Year's, and other holidays/vacations currently, do y'all [users] predict more work units available, less work units, or about the same?
----------------------------------------Less work computers will actively be in use so may or may not be powered off. University computers may or may not be powered off. Edited to clarify I was taking a poll of users's predictions on holiday availability.

I do not have any plans to increase the speed of the project before the new year. We are hopeful to start increasing it after, but we are still working out some logistics behind the scenes.
Thanks, -Uplinger |

but we are still working out some logistics behind the scenes. Some of us are intently interested in the "behind the scenes" work and how the whole project fits together. Whenever you can spare the time, we appreciate being informed and educated about the details. Thanks for your efforts. Cheers

Bah humbug. ![]() Merry Christmas y'all.

I haven't got any more ARP work units in over two weeks. Maybe I'm dumb, but I just don't get it. Under preferences, I have selected to send me only ARP. But I also have selected to send me work from other projects if no ARP is available. So I get all these WUs for MIP and MCM. My PC crunches some of these WUs, and at some point sends the back to the server and requests new WUs. However WUs returned to the server only comprise maybe 4 - 6 hours of work. So when my PC requests new WUs, it thinks, "Hmmm these ARP WUs take about 24 hours, but I only have 4 - 6 hours to run replacement WUs according to my preferences, so I'm going to download something else instead". So how will I ever get more ARP WUs this way, because there won't be enough time to run them according to my preferences? Am I missing something? Merry Christmas all.

It does introduce the risk of letting devices run dry + it requires more babysitting, but it's helped me in the past with getting HSTB work, and it helps a little bit with ARP1. * Easy way: Fill up a buffer (say...1-3 days, personal preference) with other work such as MIP1 or MCM1, then untick those projects and only tick ARP1, then cross your fingers for the next x days. * Slightly harder: Automate the process with Windows Task Scheduler or Linux crontab and [politely] ask for work once or twice per hour. * Alternate way: Wait patiently until the project ramps up in 2020 after WCG does technical magic behind the scenes.

I get a trickle of arp1 with device profiles set to a max of unlimited arp1, 8 mcm1 and 2 mip1 for my 8 threads. I have app_config set to run a max of 3 arp1, 7 mcm1 and 1 mip1. That way, when there are no arp1 available I have a full house of mcm1 plus mip1 and they update frequently to replenish and ask for arp1 at the same time.
The cache settings are set to refreah every 1.5 days and an extra 1.5 days. Those allow for the length of time taken to run an arp1 unit (completing in around 1 day) and hold one in cache for each active thread on arp1. The 7+1 and 8+2 allow for a spare on each project to cover the brief period between upload and download of the next unit. I seem to have a trickle of arp1 such that most of the time I have one, but sometime as many as 5. To count as a reliable machine I need a maximum of 2 units per active thread, hence the 3 on app_config. If I ever had more than 6 (never so far) I would up app_config to at least half the cache of arp1 units. Uplinger has suggested that the supply will increase in the New Year, so watch this space.
