Personally I think it's Ludicrous that a ARP Challenge would be run this early with the limited amount of Wu's being released ... You know it was a challenge to fill your buffers with SIMAP hmmer's at the right moment ![]() |

My team is in one of the challenges for ARP only and it's interesting that out of 31 teams, only 8 of those teams even get ARP units and out of those 8, one team has over 4 times as many ARP than the next team. I suspect there are machines out there pulling every single ARP unit the minute it's offered, making the odds swing wildly away from 1 in 1000. 23 teams have zero ARP results (although it's only been a day or two since the challenge started). https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/chall...lenge.do?challengeId=9745 That's a pretty top-heavy looking list of teams and doesn't "seem like natural distribution" to my eye. $0.02 Personally I think it's Ludicrous that a ARP Challenge would be run this early with the limited amount of Wu's being released ... 100% agree

I am confused about available tasks for ARP1.
----------------------------------------Sometimes when my BOINC client asks for work, I get something like this: Tue 03 Dec 2019 08:52:05 AM EST | World Community Grid | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks Tue 03 Dec 2019 08:52:05 AM EST | World Community Grid | No tasks sent Tue 03 Dec 2019 08:52:05 AM EST | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Africa Rainfall Project <---<<< Tue 03 Dec 2019 08:52:05 AM EST | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Microbiome Immunity Project Tue 03 Dec 2019 08:52:05 AM EST | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Smash Childhood Cancer Tue 03 Dec 2019 08:52:05 AM EST | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for OpenZika Tue 03 Dec 2019 08:52:05 AM EST | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for the applications you have selected. I would infer it is telling the truth, that there are no ARP1 tasks available But the next time, it does not mention ARP1 at all: Tue 03 Dec 2019 10:08:23 AM EST | World Community Grid | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Tue 03 Dec 2019 10:08:23 AM EST | World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for CPU Tue 03 Dec 2019 10:08:25 AM EST | World Community Grid | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks Tue 03 Dec 2019 10:08:25 AM EST | World Community Grid | No tasks sent Tue 03 Dec 2019 10:08:25 AM EST | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Microbiome Immunity Project Tue 03 Dec 2019 10:08:25 AM EST | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Smash Childhood Cancer Tue 03 Dec 2019 10:08:25 AM EST | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for OpenZika Does this mean there were tasks, but for some reason it does not wish to send me one? Or what? ![]() |

I get below (last line) which indicates work but not for this PC (Linux), for 1 or more projects.
----------------------------------------This likely means work there is 2nd of pair and needs to go to same type of system - Windows, Linux, Mac (or Android when there are Android tasks, none currently). 20048 World Community Grid 03/12/2019 15:32:07 Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 20049 World Community Grid 03/12/2019 15:32:07 Requesting new tasks for CPU 20050 World Community Grid 03/12/2019 15:32:09 Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 20051 World Community Grid 03/12/2019 15:32:09 No tasks sent 20052 World Community Grid 03/12/2019 15:32:09 No tasks are available for Microbiome Immunity Project 20053 World Community Grid 03/12/2019 15:32:09 No tasks are available for Mapping Cancer Markers 20054 World Community Grid 03/12/2019 15:32:09 Tasks are committed to other platforms Paul.

I've never paid any attention to Team Challenges, personally. They're all in light fun anyways.

I presume the reference to team challenge was to highlight the disparity of availability of units.
I got another 2 today, but nearly every update comes back with the information that units are available for other platforms. I suspect that this is not a correct message. Mike |

20054 World Community Grid 03/12/2019 15:32:09 Tasks are committed to other platforms OK: just a case if no ARP1 work for Linux machines then? ![]() |

@Mike.Gibson
There are several discussions going on, in this thread and elsewhere, about the meaning of 'other platforms'. It's complicated, and the message does indeed mean more than the obvious. You can read Uplinger's posts above if you want, but I really wouldn't bother. Just think of it as 'The scheduler couldn't find anything for your device', and consider that that means either it wasn't eligible or else the scheduling system was short of work (or clogged up). It's a pity we can't tell the difference between these situations, but we're stuck with it. But it at least means that we don't keep pestering the techs for more work. Oh. Wait. We've been pestering them about this message instead. Guess they can't win! |
