I am running Linux Mint on an old i5 T430 Thinkpad (a laptop that was released in 2012) with SSDs all round and 12gb ram. I had given up getting any WUs, thinking maybe my machine was not up to spec, until last night.. bingo! Got 1 WU. Not sure if the recent tech tweaks helped... I was on the point of giving up. Maybe the problem is just simply they are very scarce compared to the number of crunchers who want them. (my WU ID is: MCM_156388_1902_1 Estimated finish time: 1 day 9 hrs)
----------------------------------------In my case, I set preferences to all 4 cores at 100%, and only crunching Africa rainfall (though there about 6 MCM WUs in my queue when I got the Africa WU) So, my advice to anyone with a similar rig ... keep trying! ![]() [Edit 3 times, last edit by Glen David Short at Nov 30, 2019 2:04:07 PM] |

Glen congrats.
----------------------------------------I have a slightly newer I7 -3720QM I dedicated it to ARP and was able to grab and crunch 87 days prior to the introduction of randomized WU release. Initially my estimated finish time was simular to yours. Don't be concerned if that time increases to well over 2 Days. Mine were consistently 2D 14hr, Assuming your T430 has a I5 3320M 2.6 GHz (Passmark single thread rating of 1643) It will probably take 2 Days 20hrs based on my comps STR of 1820. Having some old and slow machines are good to rackup the Days vs Points ![]() ![]() |

That is an Mapping Cancer Markers unit, not an African Rainfall unit. Oops! Well spotted. The correct number is ARP1_002_000_0 Lots of zeros there, maybe waiting for a compatible wingman? Don't be concerned if that time increases to well over 2 Days. Mine were consistently 2D 14hr Are you also running Linux? Ive got an i5 -3320M. @ 2.6ghz. So far seems to be running faster than the estimate. Could be because its my first WU? ![]() |

On an I7 2700K the units take about 24 hours. On a Xeon X5650 they take about 37 hours. On a Xeon X5670 they take about 29 hours. On a Xeon E5645 they take about 39 hours. On a Xeon L5420 they take about 38 hours. Hope this helps.

Sounds like processing is slightly faster on Linux. I have some similar cpus in HP Z800s that take around 5-10% longer running Win10

My 2D 14h was reflected by crunching 38 WU. The elapsed time only varied by no more than 49 min (1.3%). Unlike other projects there is only one flavor of WU. ![]() ![]() |

Please post what your final number comes to. I will. Currently it is sitting at 42.291% completed with exactly 9hrs elapsed and 19hrs 11mins remaining. So on track for a 28 hr duration, a fair bit less then the 1 day 9 hr estimate. But I am now down to just one core running, as the MCM wus were completed and no new ones started. I have a question. I aborted two MCM WUs that had not yet started. Will that penalize me in BOINC's algorithm regarding being a "reliable host"? Or do only error results mark a host as unreliable? Might have shot myself in the foot! ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Glen David Short at Nov 30, 2019 10:40:33 PM] |

I don't think aborting 2 will screw up getting more ARP. They are already rarer than hens teeth. Also I don't know if a WU runs across two threads. If not, off loading WU's probably will not speed up execution.
----------------------------------------I hope the projection holds true. I noticed sometimes the % complete would go very slow but the elapsed time would increment. ![]() ![]() |

Sounds like processing is slightly faster on Linux. I have some similar cpus in HP Z800s that take around 5-10% longer running Win10 Can't get enough to make it worthwhile to keep my 28 core Linux server running. When the current one finishes it will be shut down.
