Where are the new Climate projects?

Been a few months since the announcement of 3 new climate change projects. Any news or updates on when these will be released to us?

We are usually kept in the dark. Best way of telling if something new is coming is to keep an eye on the beta announcements.

Re: Where are the new Climate projects?

Hello everyone,

We're planning launch the first project very soon. Projects always take at least a few months to onboard, and the three climate/environmental projects are different from anything we've done before in some important ways. (For example, they include providing the researchers with data from The Weather Company, which is owned by IBM.)

And yes, do keep an eye on the beta announcements over the next few weeks!

Thanks,

Caiti

Re: Where are the new Climate projects?

Thanks Caiti for the update - I'm certainly looking forward to getting my teeth into a new project, particularly a climate/environmental one as, I feel that, unless we start taking this seriously, there won't be a planet for us to live on.

Re: Where are the new Climate projects?

For the climate simulations are there likely to be work units for Android?

I'm trying to decide whether to get a Android tablet or a Microsoft Surface. Android's interface is better thought out for tablets, and Snapdragon CPUs give better battery life. But on the other hand, my hardware purchases are largely motivated by contributions to WGC as well.

Unfortunately, the first project that Caiti referenced above won't support android. We don't know about the other two projects yet.

Re: Where are the new Climate projects?

@seippel - Thanks very much for the response. In that case I will probably stick to x86 processors on a Windows platform instead of going for Android devices. More versatile for crunching work units.
