Hello crunchers, contributors,
----------------------------------------It is five years now that I stopped crunching, and I am happy to see that WCG is still in good shape and projects are alive and going well. I contributed from 2008 to 2013. Then I stopped, not having time and space in my house for my little computer cluster. It was a very nice and hot competition for the good cause. After five years I lost a few ranks from 16th to 52nd in points and still 48th in number of results. I thought I would have lost much more ranks. After all hardware and CPU's have improved a lot in five years, so I thought I would be much more down the drain. As says the song, after all those years: I'M STILL STANDING! Happy crunching ![]() ![]() |

Hello teammate,
----------------------------------------It's good to hear from you again my friend. I myself just came back to crunch again in 2015 after almost 7 years off the Grid. With more and more Universities and big companies starting to help, it becomes harder and harder to get to the top 50. So for you still rank that high after 5 years not crunching, it's a heck of a job you did back then. Definitely STILL STANDING :) Most of our old crew are hanging out at the forum link in my sig. Come chat with us my man. |

Hello Hypernova,
----------------------------------------Ah the good old days of HCC GPU computing. We both used to sample that cherry pie often. Come and drop by the forum 20th Dec 2012 ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by stoneageman at Oct 1, 2018 8:41:19 PM] |

Welcome back, Hypernova

Welcome back, Hypernova - a mermaid never forgets a Base Camper which you were briefly one time. You had a renewable energy project running in your house on which you gave us updates. How is that coming along? ![]() You have good memory indeed little mermaid. In fact I just finished a major renovation of my house. I have first improved external walls insulation, and also internal with all the windows changed with triple glass gas insulated type. And then I have changed the house heating system with a heat pump using geothermal energy. The heat is taken from a 300mt deep well that we drilled beside the house. Now this project was finished in September this year. I will now go through 12 months of running and see what becomes my electricity bill. Then I have indeed the photovoltaic solar energy project on the roof. This project was improved over the years, as solar panel prices went strongly down and efficiencies up over the last five years, and now I have also batteries included to save additional energy to be used say at night. This electrical energy can feed the heat pump. The problem is to decide how much solar panels and batteries do we need and calculate the ROI. For that I have to wait until the new energy consumption will be known as a result of the present works. This takes one year or fours seasons. As you see from a simple solar panel project it went to a whole hous renovation and complete energy project. My aim is to become 90% green in the end. Cross fingers. ![]() |
