How are you checking your settings? If I remember correctly, these two lines:
3/24/2018 1:37:17 PM | World Community Grid | Host location: none 3/24/2018 1:37:17 PM | World Community Grid | General prefs: using your defaults mean that your client settings are being ignored and it's using the settings from the web. If the location is "none" then I assume that means that it's using the "Default" profile from WCG. BUT, I don't run other BOINC applications -- if you do, then some setting on some other web site may be being used (whichever was changed the most recently, I believe). Check the "Options" -> "Computing preferences" dialog in BOINC Manager to see if it says you're "Using local preferences" or "Using web preferences" at the top. If it's using web, and you change something in this dialog, then the settings in the dialog will take precedence, so try that. |

Paul, in my preferences there are no options that ask to use the CPU. It only has one that asks if i want to use the GPU too. The settings for when to run WCG are stated in terms of the CPU though. It assumes that I'm using the CPU. Also, the settings are set as they have always been for the last 8 years. I'm running the last three work modules right now so until today it was fetching new work with these same settings. Is there any other place to check to see where I can opt for the CPU that I don't know of yet?

Next block down, Advanced settings (I had to look twice to see it).

Apis, i don't have any settings that speak about location under my preferences. If I hit the clear tab, then it will use the web settings. I'm ready to try hitting that to see if it helps. Any way that i can set my location that is not under the 'computer preference' tab?

Paul, I just did something stupid. Under the advanced tab, I set my PC to my name (which is how it appear on my account) and it froze everything! Just lovely....Now I'm even more perplexed. sigh

I just have to add, why the hell do we even have any GPU settings as we rely on CPU usage? I would not be having this ridiculous problem if we did not have that setting option. It's quite frustrating.

If you mean "Select Computer" under Advanced tab of BOINC manager, just do "select computer" again and OK with blank in "host name".

Okay, will do. Thanks. Back to the original problem; viz. how can I get WCG to run only on the CPU which is has always done?

More perplexities! According to the event log, I just downloaded new work, yet it does not appear in my list of work to do. I'm running the last 3 modules now with no other work pending. And the event log still claims the work is set for 'Intel-GPU" . 3/24/2018 2:25:06 PM | World Community Grid | Computation for task MCM1_0141081_5536_0 finished

Check your options are similar to mine below, key here are
----------------------------------------Allow research to run on my CPU? Yes On multiprocessors, at most use: processors On multiprocessors, use: 100 % of processors Connect to network about every 1 days Cache .1 extra days of work Advanced Options Processor Usage Do work while computer is in use? Yes Do work on my graphics card while computer is in use? Yes Do work only after computer is idle for: 3 minutes Do work while computer is running on batteries? Yes Stop work after computer is idle for: 0.0 minutes Allow research to run on my CPU? Yes Suspend work if CPU usage is above 0.0 % of cpu If you set this value to 0, it means no restriction is enforced. This setting is used version 6.10.30+ of the BOINC agent. If you are using version 6.2 of the software, then the number of processors used will be the lesser of the two fields below. If you are using a version before 6.2, then only the 'at most' field will be used. On multiprocessors, at most use: processors On multiprocessors, use: 100 % of processors ... Workunit Cache Settings Connect to network about every 1 days Cache .1 extra days of work Paul.
