 nine of my machines have rejoined the fight at least four will never fight again  i have grave doubts about seven others  at least four of them are getting new hard drives and i may not be allowed to install the program on them (i really hate anal tech kids who think anything they don't think of or control must be evil)  and the four rouges have never dropped the ball  with all that said, all 24 machines are accounted for.  i really wish there was some way to get rid of the old machines and old installations from my profile. it says i have 59 machines and i have never had more than 24. between the geniuses at symantec and microsoft, i had to reinstall most of the computers to at one point or another - one had to be redone five times - and each time it counts as another machine in my profile.  this means i will still have to get some help to reclaim my rightful place ahead of stefan  (i think he put over 10,000 points between us since i announced my "shock and awe" campaign - the shock was my loss of machines and the awe being the sound stefan is making at hearing of my loss) but now i am on a quest it is a very friendly and loving quest, but a quest none the less so don't rest too comfortably stefan. i'll find more machines. i'll scour the offices and homes around me for idle computers. i'll get all my friends' machines. i'll make new friends just to get their computers. i'll follow the lead of our leaders and start buying cheap crunching machines just for the wcg project. i'll do whatever it takes and you will soon see me gaining on (then passing) you  LOOK OUT GRID, WE'RE COMING FOR YOU!!! Sorry team, but my daily contribution of points has dwindled a bit during the last few days due to network problems (in house). My DHCP and DNS server lost a disk two days ago and this morning the same thing happened on the backup server
---------------------------------------- . So most of my PCs cannot reach the grid servers at the moment. Working on a solution ...

Greetings from the keyboard of my latest £126 cruncher
----------------------------------------It's just downloading the MS Hotfixes and patches so I thought I'd post an update while I wait. It's already 60% through Work Unit 1 You have to get your priorities right I fitted the heatsink before installing the board this time - you live and learn  I'm now running a 14,800+ AMD Athlon XP. (The Autumns Household now has 19,900+ of Athlon running at the mo) I don't think I'll get away with another one  |
