Re: Off-line crunching

I haven't started any FAQ yet, and propably won't until I have much more information. I try to find some Android stuff for testing, but my money and time are very limited. I would also need others help. But I'll keep collection information, so maybe some day...

Re: Off-line crunching

Only few, not as enthusiastic as I am, and they crunch only with PCs, so I guess I'll end up some day shearing my findings with someone else compiling the Android FAQ... ;)

Re: Off-line crunching

Halo Jones, ........

OldChap, I brought two power banks with me on my trip. One seemed almost to suck the last power out of my cell phone instead of charging, so I threw that out along with all the little hotel shampoos and body lotions I tend to hoard in order to close in on the carry-on weight limit for the plane. The other one seems pretty reliable. It's a SilverCrest from Lidl.
It says "Battery 3.7V, 5000mAh, 18.5Wh".
So, what do you think I should get to supplement that one?
Low weight is a factor as I carry it in my shoulder bag along with a lot of other stuff needed when walking.

What I got was a 4 cell case like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5V-2-1A-USB-4X-1865...=&hash=item33cc599df5
Then put some cheap cells off ebay in it. The downside is they don't charge the phone any more than 2-3 times
You can buy much better cells but often these are not protected so not sure of the implications of this and they cost more. example:
https://www.fasttech.com/product/5641202-auth...inr18650-35e-3-6v-3500mah
or
https://www.orbtronic.com/batteries-chargers/...on-battery-cell-ncr18650b

One of the issues is that there are a lot of fake products out there so finding a source of high capacity (but low current is fine) genuine cells is a job in itself. try to buy nanes like above or LG or Sanyo if you want the best.

Of course you can buy the cheap ones like me and just put up with the lesser performance

EDIT: This particular model of case has auto shut off when charging and discharging so using Flat top batteries should not be an issue. Likewise any battery rated at 10 amps or even 6 amps should not get warm running at around 3 amps or less.
If a single cell is rated at 3500mAh (true rating) having 4 gives 14000mAh capacity.
Most non named manufacturers over estimate this. The £1 each cells on ebay are rated as 5000mAh but are not much over 1500mAh

Re: Off-line crunching

OldChap, thank you for noticing my post.
It seems to be a jungle out there.
Such a pack of four would take up a lot of room in a bag and also weigh quite a bit.
The one I have can probably charge my phone from 20% to 100%, and that's OK, so maybe I should just wait for Lidl to put a new batch of those in the stores and get one more. It has turned out to be handy enough when connected to the phone making it possible to takes pictures and work the phone as long as you have a firm grip around the bundle of "devices".

Sorry to be so curious (if I'm not I'll never get any wiser), but what do you need several charges for?
Are you outdoors a lot away from a regular power supply?
With spare power of that calibre, you should be all set for Base Camping thinking

And you, Halo Jones, you don't seem to have a team.

To both of you gentlemen, thank you very much for helping me rose
- please join me for coffee

Re: Off-line crunching

Weight is 200g size is ~93 x 75 x 20mm. There are of course smaller versions (1, 2, 3 cells)

A couple of 4 cell and 4 of the 6 cell version here mainly as a last minute grab when going out of the door with a discharged phone. There are 4 of us using these. Good for train journeys etc too

The weight is not that bad. I'll keep it in mind, OldChap.

e-mail you?
Whauw! You're one of the courageous ones who list not only your e-mail but also your location and profession in your Forum profile.
So nice to know the basics, OldChap. Wunderbar!

Thank you for the coffee smile
- the machinery looked mighty scary and made me love my classic, no fuss Italian espresso maker

- but I surely loved the pattern he put on that coffee. Wish I could do that coffee coffee

Re: Off-line crunching

Feedback and questions
My little Mr Jones crunches with good appetite. He eats Ebola and Zika. In "Projects" I'm told - in a yellow (the warning color) - that
"Smash Childhood Cancer needs 384.00MB RAM but only 368.06 is availabe for use"

I cannot see where I find out how many RAMs he has, but I take it that WCG has determined it doing a benchmark or something. I cannot see how I can bring that figure up - I seem to have stripped him of as much as I can.

How many of our projects are available to him with his puny 368.06 RAM?

Are his days as a cruncher counted?
worried
