This weekend puzzle is a small crossword, consisting of a grid of squares and blanks into which words crossing vertically and horizontally should be written according to clues.
----------------------------------------Each number in a square is the beginning point of a word, either horizontally or vertically, or both.
DESCRIPTIONS Horizontally: (number of letters: 7,3,3,3,3,5,4,2 resp.) 1. Ordinal number 7. End of message 8. Mineral deposit 9. Africa Rainfall Project 10. Dog once owned by Ronald Reagan 11. Family of operating systems 13. Dynamic random-access memory 14. Extended play Vertically: (number of letters: 3,5,6,5,4,3,3 resp.) 1. Widely consumed drink 2. Earth and all life on it 3. The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman ..., book by Edward Gibbon 4. Designated space for public expression 5. Tyrannosaurus 6. Pseudonym of the puzzle writers Emily Cox and Henry Rathvon 12. Short period of sleep Note: The space with asterisks should be left alone, it isn't a square. Good luck with this weekend puzzle, Adri [Edit 1 times, last edit by adriverhoef at Apr 1, 2023 9:21:28 AM] |

A nice puzzle. I will refrain from posting the answers so others can have the pleasure of solving it and I won't spoil it for others.

Adri,
Thanks for that -- it gave me something [else] to do online whilst trying to shepherd uploads this afternoon :-) Like Sgt. Joe last week, I won't post answers now (time zone advantage?) - hopefully someone else will have a go too... Cheers - Al. |

Thanks, Adri.
----------------------------------------I was wondering whether to [finally] post my solution as most of the week had passed - no need now! :-) I wish there was some way of posting answers without them being generally visible, but as there's no private messaging... Once again, thanks for an interesting puzzle. Cheers - Al. [Edit 1 times, last edit by alanb1951 at Apr 13, 2023 5:21:47 PM] |
