Re: Viktors Updates

Could we get a science update? In the article about the new work, there is a reference to the 2014 article describing those 7 compounds and that new protein they discovered.

Has anything happened every since? Any lab testing on those 7 compounds?

Would be nice to know how the science part currently looks.

Thomas, we haven't had our monthly call with them yet. The calls happen on different days (not on the same day) so that we can accommodate all the researchers' schedules.

Falconet, the researchers for the Help Fight Childhood Cancer project have been trying to get help testing the compounds referenced in the article for a long time. Once they are able to do so, we will let everyone know.

Re: Viktors Updates

We just wrapped up our monthly call with the research team.

1. We discussed any further targets that the team might have for World Community Grid after work from the current backlog is completed. They do have an additional target in mind, but the protein structure for it is still being solved by the research team. If additional work is not going to be ready soon and there is a pause in work, we will make an announcement in a separate thread.
2. They had just begun testing of some promising compounds when the lab that was doing the testing was shut down due to stay-in-place orders in the US. They will resume once they're allowed to open their labs again.
3. They submitted a grant last month which unfortunately didn't get funded. The researchers think that this is because quite a bit of funding has been shifted to COVID-19 research. They're continuing to look for funding to help purchase compounds.
4. As reported by other researchers, the meetings and conferences that they had planned to attend and present at later this year have been postponed or cancelled.
5. They're looking for an additional team member. Since most universities throughout the world have largely shut down, this could be a long process.

Current status of work units:
Available for Download:  84 batches
In Progress:  102 batches (11,392,542 work units)
Completed:  3,681 batches total - 59 batches in the last 30 days - average of 2 per day
Estimated backlog: 42 days

Re: Viktors Updates

Thank you for the update and let's hope they can resume testing and purchasing of compounds soon enough!

Re: Viktors Updates

I wonder what the likelihood of them being able to re-apply for the grants (and being successful) once the situation is over.
