FAH very small work units. Is this normal?

I have been a contributor for just 6months so I don't know the history of FAH1. Since FAH2 has piddled out ( I was able to get to Emerald) I jumped at a chance to start up with FAH1. I was shocked to see how small the WU are, 0.1hr on my slowest processor. Is this normal? What is the nature of the "processing chunks" to only require limited CPU time?

Re: FAH very small work units. Is this normal?

There was a posting saying the WUs for FAH1 will be super small for a awhile as they are trying to calibrate the right size. After sending a bunch of super small ones through, they'll start to make bigger ones which are more appropriately sized.

Thanks for asking and thanks for joining the project!

Seoul

Thanks for the insight. How big were the WU in the past? Did they come in four different sizes like FAH2?

Re: FAH very small work units. Is this normal?

FahV was rebooted on December 1st. Work units were a little under 2 hours for me back in 2015 when it ended. Now they are SHORT. Under .3 hours usually.

Re: FAH very small work units. Is this normal?

Just a heads up, we are going to be attempting to size them for about 1 hour on average going forward. But this can change in the future. We are still getting lots of sizing information back from the current workunits and hope to have more normalized sizing soon.

Basically if we see a ligand for a new workunit that is being built that we do not have previous data for, then we assume it is the largest possible ligand ever. This is what causes very small work units, but prevents members from getting 50 jobs of all really large unsized ligands. We keep the data seperate between flexible and ridged ligands.

Thanks,

Thanks new word for the day at least for a WCG Newb:

Ligand
In coordination chemistry, a ligand is an ion or molecule that binds to a central metal atom to form a coordination complex. The bonding with the metal generally involves formal donation of one or more of the ligand's electron pairs

Have only FA@H selected, with "send other work if none available from selected".
Getting about half as 3-hour FA@H and the rest mostly 6-hour MCM.
Why can't FA@H feed the WUs fast enough?

Re: FAH very small work units. Is this normal?

I have one quad with only FA@H2 selected for the past two days and only received one WU total. Makes it hard to help

Re: FAH very small work units. Is this normal?

Why you post this in the FAH1 work discussion forum is not clear, but anyway, let's try this thought: FAAH2 is in the process of converting to the much improved AsyncRE which is in Beta. Until that Beta concludes, no old, very long running and trickling style WU, (you know the trickling that many complain about because it requires a host to stay on-line), are no longer being released i.e. the old are for what it seems passé. That's why you don't see any except for some repair work... had 6 of those in the past 4 days.

For FAAH1 there's lots of very short to 2 hour running work available, so that's how to help FightAIDS@Home, so don't hesitate to switch over. smile
