WU Queues?

Does anyone know if there is a way to see how many WUs are available for each project?

pandelta, to expand upon Falconet's answer (and actually, your question is fairly frequently asked), is that there are numerous reasons as to why there isn't an indicator of some sort as to exactly how many WU's there are still to process in any particular project - and that's basically due to it being an unknown number.

We have had science projects running here where WU's are built off the back of WU's, and different projects where WU's are sent out again to finish them off (say, if cruncher A had only managed to get through 25% of a 'target' in it's allotted time, the remaining work is then sent out to cruncher B to see if he finishes it all off. If not, then cruncher C has a go at the remaining (say 30% - and so on). Also, WCG doesn't necessarily know the exact number of targets a particular project has to process (which, may, upon being recieved by WCG, could be broken down into more managable 'chuncks' to process).

Another factor, is that, depending upon the progress of the particular project, more or less WU's could be sent across by the scientists. Some (such as DDDT2, may be ended early - due to them not producing the expected results, whilst others (such as HFCC), are extended time and time again, as new targets are added.

Yet another factor (albeit relatively small), could be the number of resends WCG have to create - due to 'no replies' and/or verification WU's.

So, all in all, the only REAL way we'll know as to how many WU's are in a particular project, is when it's finished - and even then (as in the case of FA@H1), once a project has been "closed", there's no real reason as to why it may not be reopened again at some pojnt in the future. After all, if all the infrastructure/programs are there, this is a simple task to do if more targets have been found where results are needed.

Thankfully, there are indicators out there (such as on the main Research page), as to the progress of projects, and a few volunteer crunchers have (and still are), generating some rough estimates as to the progress/completion dates of the projects currently being run here. Most notably (and sorry, if I inadvertedly miss anyone out), SekeRob, Sgt. Joe and KLIK

The question wasn't how many WUs will there be. Rather it is how many are available, as in "How many jobs are available in the hopper to send to crunchers?" But that too has been asked and requested many times and the answer is still no.

That makes a lot more sense now, thanks for all the imput! I have used SekeRob before but the link I had stopped working. I just found a new one, I always like his charts so I am very happy to have those again! I will definitely check out Sgt. Joe and KLIK. Thanks!
