This highlights just some of the challenges we've found in providing accurate information regarding a project's end date - this scenario is not uncommon and we often just don't have enough information to provide an accurate estimate. And that also makes perfectly clear that any ordinary member who may profess to make accurate end predictions with even less information being available to them, is not only fooling themselves but also misleading other members. |

Thanks Juan & Seippel for the update. What you explained was pretty much what was stated before in various member's posts, but now coming from an official source. Still means that I have to crunch like there's no tomorrow to meet my goals (which is great by my standards ).
----------------------------------------Thanks, CJSL World Community Grid: the final frontier. These are the adventures of the grid WCG. Its never-ending mission: to explore strange new methods, to seek out new cures and new solutions, to boldly crunch where no man has crunched before. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by cjslman at Dec 13, 2016 2:18:07 AM] |

Thank you seippel and jhindo. Your explanations are most informative and helpful.
---------------------------------------- We are therefore rethinking the project progress bar all together as it's become a source of confusion and misinformation. Please do not eliminate the progress bars. Even with all the caveats you have listed, the progress bars, even though inaccurate and imprecise, allow the members to see progress in some form. In order to help avoid confusion perhaps a small explanatory note could be appended to the bottom of the Research page emphasizing the limitations of the progress bar. Having (and continuing) to dabble in charting progress of some projects, it is always appreciated when updated information on the projects comes from the scientists and the techs. Cheers

On our conference call this afternoon, we received an updated *estimated* number of batches for this project. I've updated the estimate on the website accordingly. Seippel We raced through an experiment covering batches 131137-146286, still racing beyond, which has remained unspecified. If you kindly could stimulate the update to http://openzika.ufg.br/experiments/ experiment list, I'd be most relieved of the haze in my head The Auditor (You'd fail SOX 404, not a HTTP error, miserably ;) |

+1 to what Sgt. Joe said and thanks for the direct clarification. Make that +2. I'm not a forum regular as I simply don't have the time, and I suspect that many WCG members don't even realise the fora exist, so there needs to be a way of letting people know if a project is moving along. That progress bar may not be particularly accurate, but it does give an indication of what is happening and it allows people to feel that they are contributing to progressing the project. Without it WUs are completed and thrown into a black hole with no indication of what effect the member's crunching is having. <relurk> [Edit 2 times, last edit by atraindriver at Dec 13, 2016 10:57:24 AM] |

Progress fell to 39%. End of discussion, come back in 3 years ;-) Not exactly...more like end of Oct, beginning of Nov 2017! |

Not exactly...for example, this ZIKA on my hunt: - previous calcs said I could get to 2y D badge by Dec 2016, while project was ending on Apr/Mar 2017 - later it's been speed up by ending of UGM recently...so it came down to Feb/Jan 2017...still enough time for my 2y D badge, which will come here in a day or two! - I've been on "slow-down" (dis-sellected the project, until new ECD was made)...& current ECD is about end of Oct/Nov 2017...my plan is to get there for a 5y D badge! So, as you see...many people are on a hunt for badges, as a new data comes in... Yes, we do donate to science...but also like to have a little competition...to earn some cool badges along the way! & all my earning from GRC goes to donations...like recently I gave a year amount of GRC to SETi@home! |
