At the moment, the progress bar seems to be going up by 1% every day or so. So I would say end of the year or close to it. Unless FAAH takes some of the crunchers.
Eruda - I think you are ok. You have a lot more crucnhing power than me and I think I can get the 15 years I need for 50yr in time. Your 4.5ye shoud be ok! |

Don't be sad! You are still 1 or 2 years ahead of the rest of the non-crunching world!

Honestly it is a small group of people with large badges. Most of the volunteers and most of the work gets done by people with one machine. They are truly the massive force and they are getting huge amounts done collectively. Don't despair : )

The bulk of the work truly is done by the "small crunchers" - many of whom don't visit this forum, they just let their machines crunch on in the background, knowing that they're doing "their bit" towards science. The only reason why I've got so many badges (the highest of which, is 2 years/Sapphire), is because I've been around for a very long time - not due to any "CPU farm" that I may have/had. At the moment, my computing power is simply 2 quadcore laptops - one which is now over 6 years old, and the second, just shy of 2 years old. For the majority of my "crunching time", I've simply had the one computer (which, wasn't even mine - it was my employers, although they didn't mind me using it to contribute towards WCG, as my employer was IBM). |

I'm officially depressed.. everybody talks about 50 or 100 yrs badges.. I'm slowly going to 1 or 2 by the end of the project.. Its sad.. First of all, not "everybody" talks of such big badges... it's the less of the crunchers (their contribution is very welcome). The bulk of the work gets done by crunchers like you and me (and of course gb009761 )... so you are part of the majority. I, for example, have never made it past 5 years. Please feel very proud to participate in such a noble and important activity. CJSL World Community Grid: the final frontier. These are the adventures of the grid WCG. Its never-ending mission: to explore strange new methods, to seek out new cures and new solutions, to boldly crunch where no man has crunched before. |

Although I can now aim for 10 years, I have bronze and silver badges, even one project that didn't get enough for a bronze. When I need to upgrade, I don't toss the old computer; it retires to the "farm". I even have some computer that have been donated to the cause by family when they have upgraded. I even have an old Android phone and tablet. I also bought a "pre-paid" Android phone for $20 at Walmart that is now working on Zika. Just keep your eyes open.Cheers |

But today, I've got: - 2x quad Xeons - 2x quad low powered Intel core2quad - several laptops installations - several Androids installations, as well as my work phone - octo-core i7 on work Doing some 15+ days in a day. Why? 'cause I want to help...doing something that gives back! |

Yes yes...we all started small. For over a year, I never got more than 10days/day. With my desktop, my laptop and a friend's desktop helping me out. You are still doing better than I was after a few months on here!
Things have changed now and I have most on from interested to being passionate about it. You are more passionate than you imagine! You are posting on here and still crunching away! You are part of the community which helps with all these projects. |
