masteraip: When I started I think I had one single core computer. Less than one day crunching per day! Even to get a bronze badge took very long.
Don't worry masteraip! ![]() |

I'm officially depressed.. everybody talks about 50 or 100 yrs badges.. I'm slowly going to 1 or 2 by the end of the project.. Its sad.. Don't be. I started small, and still small. I don't see 2 years in my future. Since its limited to my home PC, which I basically run after work and sleep as I sleep, so I don't get much 'days' in my work day. It run longer at weekend (morning till night). But as someone mentioned, only tiny group have lots of crunch capabilities (and some of them are representative of their companies, so we can't really compared to them). But the keyword here is distributed. Just look at WCG total crunching power and remember that you are part of the team. |

The completion date has advanced to 2017-01-30! 2 months of work left. ErikaT mentioned millions more compounds to screen in this post. I'm not sure if that will be a phase 2 or more work added to this project. I haven't seen an answer to that question yet. Cheers ![]() Those promisses come to me as only promisses...so I'm swithcing of ZIKA for now, to cruise down to the 2y badge...& give some of you guys some more data to finish! When the new data arrives, maybe I'll allocate more resources...now it's only "promisses" & as a business oriented person & engineer: "I belive in promisses as much as in Santa. Those things are not existent!" ![]() |

Thanks KLiK,
----------------------------------------Yes, I'm of the same opinion as you, in that, until we actually see the target date being extended somewhat by the promise of this new work, my sole focus is on trying to reach Sapphire by the (current) end date of Jan 2017. ![]() |

The date has backed off 2 days in the past week. It is now 2017-01-24. That is about 6 weeks away.

At my present rate have just calculated that 32 days are required to make 10 years...
----------------------------------------Fingers crossed the WU supply will not falter until mid January at the earliest :) - have very little reserve capacity to speed things up...

Is there some purpose in the continuation of this discussion, whilst it's been made very clear there's piles of work to be done, so much so that unless a GPGPU version would be launched (for this one and at least one other science), there's no hope in heck to even come close to finishing before the end of the next decade.

There's one definitive way to end this particular thread - and that's for the WCG techs to extend the "completion date" way into the future. It's only because they've got an end date (and the percentages are showing as much) of (currently) Jan 2017, that the discussion is ongoing.
----------------------------------------Thus, this thread is of WCG's own doing. Edit: If the WCG techs know that there's more work coming, then why don't they add it into their equations NOW, rather than at some later date. After all, as has been mentioned in this thread (and shown on WCG's own Reasearch Page), the estimated end date is only between 21 and 52 days apart (i..e, the 1st and 31st of Jan 2017). Even if a big chunk of data was added into the equation (based on them not having/knowing the TOTAL work still to do), it should bump the estimated end date out by at least 6 months. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by gb009761 at Dec 11, 2016 3:34:29 PM] |

Why would they extend the date until maybe 5-6 weeks down the road. By doing that they get a bunch of us to crunch our brains out to get a bunch of work done. Once they have what they want, they move the goal post out. I'll give them credit, they know how to motivate our badge hungry cravings.
I'm now crunching this work mostly because while it is unlikely I can get to the next badge level in the next 6 weeks (if that is reality), I'm doing this because HST1 and FAH2 projects are basically the Death Valley of WUs now (haven't seen a HST1 WU in maybe a month and its been several weeks now for FAH2 too). So I'm back to crunching Zika WUs just to have something to do until they hopefully get a new project or two out there in 2017. |
