Re: Solar/Wind

Nice MrHasselblad and Paul D ;)

Lol Klik, then I guess my crunchers were 95% clean energy powered in February of 2016 haha

well, my average also comes to almost 30% of renewable sources over a year...mostly from water! biggrin

but, wasting $50 on solar powered R Pi0...why?!
for that I get 1750kWh of electricity in my country...for that I can power R Pi0 for 6m!
wink

Last year, average was 50% something. 2014 over 63%.

Something like: 40% hydro, 20% something wind, 1% solar, some biomass etc.

I wish I could buy cheap Z3740's because 7 watts for that CPU/SOC/Whatever is simply too good.

@Falconet
I'm thinking more about this:

nice mbo...got a 35W CPU on it...upgrade-able to i7-47XX...

Re: Solar/Wind

I forgot to add in...

Naturally one technically would not need a three thousand watt solar/battery system. Mine is just that way due to the ability of BitCoin generation.

One could easily purchase a three hundred dollar (or less !!) tablet, and also a small panel/battery system capable of running that tablet 24/365 on nothing but the sun. The four core tablets that are out there could easily generate one million points on WCG per year.

Re: Solar/Wind

I was thinking a 7" RCA Voyager 2 ( $40 ), plus a USB battery large enough to keep it running for three days in case of overcast, paired with solar panel(s) and charger sufficient enough to keep the USB battery charged.

I can not find what the current draw for these quad core tablets is, but it can't be over the 5 watts { 5VDC @ 1 amp } the charger supplies.

My guess is that the power draw is much less, more around 1 watt by what I've read online.

I don't include the internet connection or wireless router in the above.

The whole unit would be a relatively "LOW CARBON" cruncher that would be cheap enough for individuals and small groups to replicate.

sthg like this?

only thing is: for $30 I can power R Pi0 for 240y!!!
so it's just not worth it...
wink

Re: Solar/Wind

Is the pi a quad core and can it run 24/7 unattended for weeks?

I am thinking about people who don't know a pie from a pi.

One of WCG'S biggest problems is that most people aren't tech minded and aren't inclined to learn because they already have a completely different skill set.

If you were a doctor, mechanic, or other, would you want to learn electronic and/or computer tech just to crunch???

I'd double-check the tech specs just to be sure; my Asus drew more than the charger could provide, if the screen was on while plugged into the factory charger, it would continue to drain the battery. But, that particular tablet used Micro USB for the charging interface--which was convenient in a lot of ways but also very limited with such a power hungry device.

is a Pi a quad-core?
here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/help/faqs/#generalDifference

can it run unattended for weeks?
yes, if it has Linux version of OS!

but, Pi runs on ARM procs...so only project which runs on ARM procs on WCG is OET with Android...but putting Android on Pi will not get you 24/7 unattended crunching you want to have!
see the problem?

I'm a mech.eng. & I did learn some thing to fix computers, OSes & code a little...so, what is the problem?!
wink

solution's:
a) don't use ALL cores for crunching...
b) use a USB 3.0 or double USB Y-cable for powering of mobile
cool
