Anyone considering getting one of these? Should be out soon. A grand for the 10 core is what I am hearing but the 8 core could be around 800 bucks.

Probably not for a long while, I would need to invest in a new motherboard and new ram along with the CPU. That's a lot of money just to crunch a little quicker.

Ran a test config and it came to over $11,000. Way out of my league. Pretty impressive all in all for a desktop.

Where are you getting $11,000? The price hasn't been announced yet, and there's no requirement that it be paired with premium parts, other than an x99 motherboard.

This is slight offtopic but I on other hand are waiting for AMD Zen to come out. Those will be packed with cores too and if AMD done right they would match Intel in perfomance core for core. Due too AMDs erlier failures i guess Zen will hit market with less price then Intels i7 untill AMD get there reputation back again as performance chips.

2 x QEY7's = $700
----------------------------------------Seasonic 550w SG12 = $80 2 x Cooler Master 212 Evo (can be found on ebay for ~$25) RAM = 4 x 4GB PC4-2133P (can be found on ebay for ~$20-$25) Supermicro X10DRi-O = $344 (open box from newegg) the mobo requires 2 x 8 PIN power connectors. I get PCIe to EPS 8 pin converters from ebay ~$5 60GB SSD = ~$35 Total: $1,294 USD for 56 threads ($23.11 per thread) Source: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthrea...mp;viewfull=1#post5270335 For $11,000, we can build 9-10 of these I have 3 and each pulls ~300w from the wall. Less than the 5960X (8 cores) @4.25ghz |

I'm looking forward for ZEN as well, but it won't be cheap at all.
----------------------------------------Being the cheap option does not work in the long run. Having a lower profit margin than intel is more of an emergency solution than a sustainable business policy. If AMD can do 8 real cores w/ haswell performance and efficiency, you can bet the price will be there as well. In fact they must ask premium prices if they have a premium product, otherwise they wont survive for long. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by fuzzydice555 at Apr 23, 2016 4:39:57 PM] |

Until AMD can get real close to match Intel in performance, then Intel will continue to gouge users on prices. AMD seems to be more interested in GPU and SoC chips, but they are killing Intel on the SoC department.
