Re: Too Late?

The worst thing in project is - real deadlines are shorter as declared!
I am not able to understand such strategy of the project team (do not say the truth or deliberately mislead the volunteers).

Re: Too Late?

Was already explained to you in this thread. There's 80K+ results being returned and validated complete each day, so the strategy works. Accept and move on.

Re: Too Late?

Was already explained to you in this thread.

No agression, please. I feel me like **** since I started to participate, so do not make, please, my discourage more deep.
Unfortunatelly, this project is designed for rich people club and, no doubt, the project has plenty of such participants... What can I do - just shut up and try to cool down. Writing useless messages I am only wasting my time.
I left this project in a pair of my 24/7 computers. That is all, what I can.

applause Re: Too Late?

the project stopping the tasks already 12 hours before deadline (even if 90% have been finished)

12 hours seems like a big interval. Could it be that the interval seems longer than it really is because in some places Boinc uses UTC and in other places it shows local time? When I look at the Boinc manager on my computers, they display the deadline using local time, but in the online Results Status page, it uses UTC. I wish there were two columns to show the time in both forms, because this can be very confusing.

Anyway, the point is a good one, don't run FAAH2 until the deadlines are set to longer than 4 days. 10 days is good, 4 days is not. WCG has become something quite different from a set-and-forget process that runs in the background.

Re: Too Late?

Use BOINCTasks as alternate manager instead. It has a remaining time to deadline column available. Not that makes any difference, the client manages, and if uptime and buffers keep conflicting, work will continue to run into deadline walls.

The difference of this project and the others is the result interdependence. This is the key reason of the shorter deadlines, so yes if your system can't make it, set the opt_out and forget it. This is most very probable Not going to change!

Re: BOINC tasks?

Does BOINC tasks completely replaces BOINC manager? I mean - uninstall BM and then install BOINC tasks as absolute alternative?

Don't understand why results interdependence couldn't be spread over a longer time. In any case, it is concerning that this style of scheduling could spread to future projects, so perhaps it is time to look for other grid computing to contribute to, rather than WCG. (UGM and CEP require more resources, MCM runs on high priority so pushes out any other project one might want to contribute to; OET seems the only old-style friendly project available now.)
