Found a problem with a driver for the NIC (on board Intel 10/100) of the Dell. This caused erratic behaviour and time-outs, als causing the backups to fail sometimes. As the server and the Dell make backups to each other this may explain that they both failed making their backup.
I re-installed the driver and I'm checking now if all works fine again. If so I'll join the project again and let you know if the problem is solved. I keep wondering why this diver problem came up the same day as I installed the World Community software. My logs do not show network problems before that date. |

Hi SGI,
Last week I had an automatic update to my McAfee VirusScan fail. It continued to fail and my first checks showed no cause. So Saturday morning, after overnight disk scans by VirusScan and Microsoft AntiSpyware, I went to work on my system checking lots of things. The file system had some problems, which did not exist a few weeks before. So I fixed it. Still failed. So I uninstalled VirusScan, reinstalled it and downloaded all the updates for a year. That went fast, to my surprise. So everything was working by 4 PM Saturday. What a pain! Since I am not a masochist, I tried to give myself a feeling of satisfaction that I had successfully restored my computer to full working condition. But I would feel better if I knew what caused the file system to go bust in the first place. Misery loves company, so you have my sympathy, mycrofth |

I know the feeling of getting the problems solved after many hours.
There is some satisfaction in it, less if you don't understand why it went wrong in the first place. But looking to it as an outsider, these problems should not happen, I have a lot of other things to do, more fun also ! |

Restarted the project on the server a week ago and all goes fine, including back-ups from and to the server.
So the problem is with the Dell (1266 MHz Poweredge 1400 SC) and most likely something with its NIC driver. The problems are most likely not related to the project. Will test that later. |
