Re: WU Availability

Others replicating the instructions got it to work, but think he abandoned the avenue from what he last posted over at Berkeley.

Yes, I gave up. Most probably, something else was wrong with my setting, and who would ever have found out?

But, as it was said here, the BOINC developers should make it a lot easier, ideally reducing it to a simple Checkbox.

I don't believe that there are any full-time developers for the BOINC client.

https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=77650

BOINC's funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation has ended, at least for the time being. This funding supported me, Rom Walton, and Charlie Fenton. We're now working on other things, although we'll stay involved in BOINC at some level.

So, now that it is community driven, you could volunteer your services to make that checkbox happen. It is easy to talk about making a change, making that change happen is not that easy.

Re: WU Availability

I am well aware of the funding shortfall, and do not expect miracles. But the BOINC developers are still working, though at a reduced rate. (I have worked around the problem, which is why I am not making a bigger deal about it.)

Re: WU Availability

It's standard practice on the WCG forums, so much so that the previous house-cop gave up. ;O)

edit: Oh shoot, on topic, there has not been a single validation since 5/5/2016 ... the only thing still going around is disposable wreckage.

Re: WU Availability

To cap this thread off I link over to Keith, an admin, who explains:
Greetings,

The Clean Energy Project is temporarily paused. We have been encountering high error rates and are working with the researchers to figure out the issues related with it.

We will also be adding additional monitoring for applications on the backend to help identify issues like this in the future.

Thanks for you patience,
-Uplinger

Re: WU Availability

Hi:

I see that the progress percentage has gone from 1% to 37%. Does this mean that the CEP will soon be resuming normal WU crunching operations?

Re: WU Availability

Hi Clive,

As the progress percentage is based on a math algorithm involving time and units completed, I would guess it jumped as the project has been officially "temporarily paused" (link). This means there is no official estimate as to when new WUs will come and, if anything, it means a (potentially) long wait is to be expected.

Cheers~

Re: WU Availability

Hi:

I see that the completion percentage has gone from 37% to 99%.

So is this for real? CEP2 is almost completed?

Re: WU Availability

Hi Rob:

I am both sad and happy about this project coming to a conclusion.

I am sad because I am only 54 days away from earning a 20 year contribution badge in this project.

I am happy because I am HOPING that the volunteer contributions made by many people here will lead to the manufacture and wide adoption of more efficient solar panels that will wen humanity off fossil fuels.

Will there be a Clean Energy Project 3?
