Hi. So my computer has completed the calculation/computation for a task a few days ago, and I've noticed the "uploading" status has been the one it had since then. I checked the "Transfers" tab in boinc, and saw it uploading a file that was 172 mb in size. That went good.
----------------------------------------But there are a few other, smaller files that need to be uploaded. Their sizes ranging from a few hundred bytes to almost 3 mb. So the problem is that every time I select these files that still need to be transferred and click "Retry Now", the computer tries for one second, then their status goes back to "Upload: Retry in xx:xx:xx (project backoff: xx:xx:xx)" I have found these five remaining files myself in the File Explorer, and packed them into a zip file for easy e-mailing, but where do I send them? I haven't found an e-mail address on this website. I think it would be unfortunate if I couldn't deliver these results, given that this is a matter of finding methods for cleaner energy. I know I could just abort and let someone else's computer do the job and try again, but if I did that I would feel like I gave up. I don't want to give up! (I have no issue with my internet connection. I can browse the web and stuff like that as I usually am able to, without a problem. )
I try to keep it positive and nice. I'll make mistakes, ok? It doesn't mean I'm bad. It means I try and do my best! MK?

Hi 'A Starful of Moons', thanks for your perseverance.
----------------------------------------As you might have guessed, for the Clean Energy project, there are in fact 2 destinations for these files - the largest of which (if I remember correctly), ending in _4, goes directly to the scientists, just purely due to its size. The other files, should report normally back to WCG. Obviously, by the sounds of it, there is some issue in the normal process - are these files still trying to upload?, or have you removed them from the directly in your 'zipping up' process?, are other files uploading okay? If you can post the Work Unit number in this thread, then the WCG techs could well determine if there's some issue at the receiving end preventing these files from uploading. |

172 MB for an upload seems way too big: I'm guessing you had the misfortune to encounter a bad work unit. Suggest looking up the Work Unit number as gb009761 suggests (BOINC->Advanced View->Results Status) and reporting it.

The work unit number it has is:
----------------------------------------E235845_ 806_ S.284.C25H12N6O8S1.UCERWUZGUNOPLA-UHFFFAOYSA-N.5_ s1_ 14_ 0-- (is that the right one?) The files are still trying to upload. What I zipped up were copies of these originals which are still in their right place. And yes, other files are uploading okay. My computer just uploaded a result for another project.
I try to keep it positive and nice. I'll make mistakes, ok? It doesn't mean I'm bad. It means I try and do my best! MK?

The Help FAQ speaks of a range no greater than 80MB, the going rate in this experiment series topping out somewhere 25-30MB, so suspect also a bad size, maybe leading to locking of the other 4 files [5 in total for a result]. Suggest to hit the abort button as nothing can be done.
The path given svincent goes to your copy into. Presume the status is still shown as "In Progress", but if you hit the work unit name you get to see details of all the task copies circulated. Copy / paste that into a reply so we better understand. Also if your copy is listed as error, click on that link and copy/paste the result log. |

1) In Boinc's View Menu, change to Advanced View.
2) Click the Projects tab, and select World Community Grid from the list of projects. 3) Click the Results Status button on the left. 4) A list of the workunits you've been assigned will appear in the browser. Select the offending workunit ( you should be able to identify it from the name, status, or other info provided ) 5) Click on that workunit: a new window will appear. The URL of that window will contain the workunit number: copy and paste the URL here. Hope this helps. |

Have repeatedly had this same problem - never-ending retries on upload, on this application only. First time, just aborted it. Second time is still trying, well past deadline, over 100 retries. Third time (different host) is "new", has only retried maybe a dozen times. All other projects working fine, other apps from this project working fine, but every CE result seems to never get successfully uploaded. Was working last month. Something is wrong... and from the sound of it, it's on your end?
----------------------------------------Message is "transient HTTP error". Tried several URLs found in messages and logs (turned debug on) from browser, and got an error there as well - can't remember exactly what it was, it was back on the first (aborted) one, but basically either there was no web server at that address or the certificate was expired. If you tell me the URLs these are supposed to go to, I'll try them from here and see if they're reachable; that might give a clue, anyway. The Transient 'http' error message may have to be updated to 'https' (From latest developer check-in I take it BOINC will do all comms in https per commit https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/commit/3758ae4ebceb54113f7cca4842cbbcd3f78b2778 . https means outgoing port 443 has to be open.
'transient' means the error is self-correcting. All IPs related to WCG activity are published in Help [or the defunct Start Here] https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/...ead,25668_offset,0#338085 |
