Re: Xeon Phi

Would the NUMA issue apply to a single processor system?

Yes, it's not limited to the number of processor packages, but it depends on the number of CPU cores/threads.
If there are more than 64 CPU threads, they will need to be divided into multiple CPU Groups (due to several factors including affinity mask, which is a 64-bit wide register). And if there are multiple groups, BOINC might have issues assigning proper group affinity to child processes (WUs).

Re: Xeon Phi

I am about to get a Knights Landing Xeon Phi from Intel. I would like to be able to help out in testing, if anyone is interested. I don't know anything about programming, I just crunch.

Which one would you like to get ?
I don't think it makes (crunching) sense to get the current x100 series (Knights Corner) and the self-boot Knights Landing wasn't released yet.
I'd be certainly interested in testing the later one...

Re: Xeon Phi

Next iterations of the Phi are Knights Mill at 14nm and Knights Hill at 10nm. Not a lot of info yet but some here - http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/08/17/intel_xeon_phi_knights_mill/

Only way this could work with WCG science is a "virtualization", which could take a lot of RAM also...but no, haven't tried it!

too expensive for a TOY! wink

Re: Xeon Phi

As soon as such a board (incl. CPU) will be affordable and will operate under Linux and support boinc/WCG, it could become a real and strong temptation !!!
My concern is about the necessary network bandwidth for down- and upload purpose.
