Can we not boast about these hyperinflated currency types that aren't worth anything and will crash in a month?

Still they have to mine SOMETHING... I'm supposed to get almost 3% of what is found... Something is up. Gridcoin does not use a proof of work consensus mechanism (mining like in bitcoin), it uses Proof of Stake - the more coins you have the more frequently you will be rewarded your owed GRC. Owed research earnings are tracked for 6 months before being lost, you need to stake within 6 months of crunching an WU to access your earnings. If you don't wish to crunch solo (requiring an initial balance of GRC), you can use the pool http://pool.gridcoin.co but you'll be crunching under a pool account instead of your own (no stats to boast with). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSg2Dt61DQs Can we not boast about these hyperinflated currency types that aren't worth anything and will crash in a month? Difficult not to boast about a system that's driving up adoption of BOINC :P It's not hyperinflated, and it isn't 'due' to crash in a month. It's certainly a volatile asset - like any other cryptocurrency, but volatility does not render it worthless. It's certainly worth more than not receiving rewards for your crunching. Gridcoin is just another pump and dump alt-coin ripoff. The people who created it and virtually every other alt-coin do so with the hope that stupid people will buy into it and raise the price thus giving the creators the opportunity to cash out. All of the altcoin markets are so easily manipulated that it's essentially an opportunity for creators to get free cash. Getting involved with this crap makes about as much sense as putting your money into donut hole futures. But if you want to pick up some worthless currency and you're already volunteering for WCG, wtf. Go for it. Just don't be stupid enough to put any real money into it. I fundamentally disagree with your claim that Gridcoin is a pump & dump. There are no co-ordinated pump groups, there was no premine nor instantmine, there is no central issuing authority holding a large balance (unlike ripple's system) so the creators/developers aren't in a position to dump a crazy quantity of coins onto the market. All cryptocurrencies have a volatile price, that doesn't grant developers a magical ability to generate free cash. You're right though, people shouldn't invest money they can't afford to lose. |

Here's some pondering for a very hot Sunday afternoon [at least here]. Suppose you work at say Siemens, and you have been authorized to use company resources to volunteer crunch for a good cause, yes authorized, not implicitly, but explicitly, and you then decide to use those company resources to crunch for team Gridcoin... to whom do those earned cryptocoins belong?

Siemens.. without a doubt. It was their resources that generated it.

Siemens.. without a doubt. It was their resources that generated it. And.....the person setting up such an activity should watch his/her hypothetical backside... Is your career worth pulling off such a stunt? These days a stable career is worth much more than money. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by dcs1955 at Jun 27, 2016 1:57:20 AM] |
