smile A quick Hello to fellow crunchers

I am happy to see that many old names are still there and crunching. Hello to you all, and hello to all the new contributors.

My little personal cluster dedicated to WCG (20 machines originally) is gone but for the good cause. This year the second and last batch left home. They went to two welfare foundations (each got 10), one for kids and one for adults. I think this is an excellent solution. Building the machines, then put them to hard use and abuse praying (running 24/7 365 days/year) at WCG for the benefit of humanity and finally let them retire for use directly by people to help others. It is a kind of win-win-win solution. wink

For those who have built dedicated machines I can only advise you a similar pattern.

I regularly look at the hardware evolution and it is very promising. CPUs are less and less power greedy, and the number of cores is increasing. From a max of 6 we are now to 18. A little expensive still. This time I am looking to build just one machine but "powerful enough". I have not yet decided what form it will take.

Congratulations to you all for your volounteer contributions and keep up crunching peace applause

Re: A quick Hello to fellow crunchers

Good to see you are alive and well. When you decide what you're going to build let us know. Judging from your past it will be a killer. peace

This time I am looking to build just one machine but "powerful enough". I have not yet decided what form it will take.

20 core HT CPUs are coming. How about a 4P board with 4 of them. 160 cores. Throw in 4 R9 390X GPUs and you're ready to rock and roll biggrin
