confused Does RAM speed matter for any WCG Projects?

Hello folks,

I'm waiting for the 6700k to be available before upgrading, but this is my first time in the market for DDR4 SDRAM.

PCPartPicker.com indicates that the ram price can easily quadruple at higher speeds.

16 GB at 3600 is $800.
16 GB at 2133 is $93.

I'll be using my computer primarily for crunching. I'm hoping to future-proof a little if it's economically feasible.

Is there any reason why I should consider anything but the cheapest RAM for the buck?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Not really, won't make much difference.

It's more of your CPU then your RAM. Your 6700K will kill all these work units quick! I am running 17-3630QM CPU here with 16 GB RAM.

@DD
depending on the MBO...so it doesn't have to be that RAM would be a "slow-point"...might be, but also a NB could be to d blame...

In the same area but not quiet on topic. Does it make any difference to performance how many ram sockets you have occupied.

ie. 2x8 or 4x4 gbs, or is there no difference.

You should always try to fill as many memory channels you have with matching DIMMS. In this example there would only be a difference if you had 4 memory channels.

Dayle Diamond, I don't think you would notice more than 10% difference in speed with WCG tasks. And the price is so much more. But you may have other tasks than the WCG where memory bandwidth is more important.

Thank you Enels for your quick reply, I do have 4 channels so will be filling them all.
