Most posts in this forum are old. I have a new laptop with 2 GTX 980M's base clocked at 1100Mhz. I am CPU computer and have achieved 93 days in just 4 weeks, and that is running only a few hours a day. I have selected GPU work when setting up and have NOT received one project for GPU's. I did check the list of GPU's that won't work, and did not see mine listed.
***I feel there is a lot of wasted run-time I could be offering aside from my CPU.*** Any thoughts from our community? |

There are currently no GPU enabled projects on WCG, this is mostly due to 2 things, the cost/time to develop the code to run it, but mostly due to the type of projects that don't lend themselves easily to porting to GPU.***I feel there is a lot of wasted run-time I could be offering aside from my CPU.*** Any thoughts from our community? There has been much talk about new GPU work, but this has not, as yet, materialised...

About once every fortnight someone asks, then gets the same answer as last time.... There is no GPGPU work available at WCG. You can subscribe to this forum and be notified of new discussions, then whenever there's a beta test you will be send a mail.

In the meantime, may I recommend subscribing to the GPUgrid project? They do good work and almost always have tasks available.

So I would prefer something else on a computers that you ACTUALLY USE! ;) That's likely dependent on your particular setup. GRUgrid app is OK...but the calcs slow too much computer for a normal working! So I would prefer something else on a computers that you ACTUALLY USE! ;) That's likely dependent on your particular setup. I have two computers which run WCG + GPUGrid 24/7 and I have never experienced them slowing down or becoming unresponsive during "normal working." First, the definition of "normal working" is important. On two of my computers, running GPU tasks from another project alongside CPU tasks from WCG, the only time I might see a problem is trying to run full-screen 3D games at high definition (e.g. first person shooter at 1080 or higher). In those cases, I suspend BOINC altogether during 3D gaming. Otherwise, browsing, Office, and even "casual" games at 1080 or 1200 run without issue. But that is because the project has been well optimized (see below). Second, how your PC behaves can be highly-dependent on how much each GPU task depends on the CPU for support. I run Einstein@Home on my GPU's alongside WCG units on my CPU's (currently CEP2 and MCM). Einstein recently released a beta version of one of their projects which uses very little CPU time in support of GPU-based unit processing. If you are interested, choose to run: Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Parkes PMPS XT) and be sure to opt into Beta projects by checking the box next to: Run beta/test application versions? Plus, Einstein is very generous with the BOINC points on GPU. |

You need add your software to nvidia control panel so that your GPU can be executed.

You need add your software to nvidia control panel so that your GPU can be executed. it's up to scientists...not WCG! & they say: making GPU app is 6months away, while in 6months d project probably (might) will be over... ![]() |
