Sorry for the short notice, but I was able to get the resources needed to make the change quickly. Needed to react when they were available. I will be rerunning the stats here shortly to get them caught up 100%. Thanks, -Uplinger Thank you for all the work that you did Uplinger!!! ![]() ![]() |

Thanks, -Uplinger Thank you for all the work that you did Uplinger!!! ![]() Thanks for getting thing straightened out, I am myself working in sysadmin capacity, so I am aware of the little unexpected problems that come along even the smoothest transition. Compared to a few other projects, I must say that overall the responsiveness of the whole WCG team beats all other by far... Ralf ![]() |

Well, I've looked around and haven't noticed any off-looking timestamps. It seems like the EOD stats today ran in about 2/3's the usual time. Will be interesting to see if that continues tomorrow or that's just a one-off result of the weekend changes. I believe that leaves just the project sort order on just the My Contribution page. I haven't found another page where it changed. Sweet!

Just had a thought (no, it's not a sign of the apocolypse.....yet). What if News posts in the future for upgrades/maintenance included something like what you see in things like release notes/change logs and such? It would all be Greek to 99 percent of us but would be something we could see and be able to realize, to some degree, the magnitude of what has to go on "behind the curtain" to keep things humming. It only makes sense that changes have to be made to keep things up with all the latest security updates, updates to BOINC and other back end software/hardware, and the like. Just the sheer volume of data WCG has to maintain has to be beyond anything the DB software devs ever thought possible.

can be changed "statistics by project" back to previous order?
after maintenance project are ordered by "total run time" and mixed active/passed project |

I want to second dango's request that the active projects be grouped together again. I do a little spreadsheet daily that calculates when particular projects will reach their next badges. Silly, I know. It's a hobby. I don't really care about the inactive projects because they will never have progress. Right now they clutter up the view.

It's actually now the umpteen-ed report, in this and other threads, the first report acknowledged by techs as a point of investigation. No ETA.
Crowd crunch on. |

Keithhenry, Unfortunately there are some security reasons that we do not divulge much information behind the scenes on our servers. For example, if I said we were upgrading from Ubuntu 08.04 to 08.10, then known security issues could be targetted. We do not use Ubuntu on our backend and our server software is up to date. But you can see how saying we're patching something of a known security bug, gives availability for someone to exploit it. Most of the upgrades for security purposes do not require reboot, so those go unnoticed. I do agree it would be interesting to know more and I try to give as much information as I'm allowed. I will try to make the System Outage messages have more information in the future. Thanks, -Uplinger |

As Sekerob has mentioned, it is on my radar. I have not had a chance to look into it just yet, but I hope to get to it soon. Something changed and I need to see what triggered it. Thank you for your patience, -Uplinger |

Once again thank you very much for your (and teams) hard work on the past weekend.
