After looking at the user graph, I was quite sad. The number of users were down from -+100K to -+50K, basically. I was also browsing the news page to see what actually happen around end of 2013 and mid 2014. Was it something related to climate research.
----------------------------------------Knowing how hardware improves, to know we lost around 50% active members are sad. However, I need to understand other STAT sites (BoincStat, etc) to know if BOINC users are growing, or people start to move from desktop to laptop and tablet (where they need to converse their battery more) - which means less BOINC users actually. From BoincStat also shows that Seti@Home is 50% of all BOINC users. Anyway, that graph is grim. If we lost around 50% active users in 7 years. In another 7 years WCG is history - except for IBM own PCs. |

Extrapolating from incorrect and incomplete numbers will lead, invariably, to debatable conclusions, but in general the whole BOINC world is out of vogue, where WCG active BOINC users is 14.3 percent versus All BOINC world 8.9%.

So are you saying in general citizen science in distributed computing are becoming less popular despite hardware getting more powerful (a pc could easily have 4 thread with 1 thread was enough to browse the net, etc)? or BOINC is getting less popular (was there another app on the rise?) or BOINC is getting popular and distributed computing, just not WCG. I'm sorry, I just don' quite get what your reply supposed to mean, thanks. |

Today, people don't donate!
----------------------------------------They see everything through EXPENSES...and running BOINC on their computer cost 20% more electricity...which coits 20% more money! Today people are too obsessed to have more, not to give more! |

...in general the whole BOINC world is out of vogue, where WCG active BOINC users is 14.3 percent versus All BOINC world 8.9%. For fun anecdotal evidence, I looked at my registration class stats via Free-DC. Of 112 people in my class, 10 of us had returned any work in the last 28 days, and 8 in the last week. That's a hair under 9% of people active in my class. Granted, my class is 6+ years old, so the percentage probably drops in proportion to age. Long story short, I'd never really thought to look until seeing this thread, but it was depressing to scroll through a long list of 0's. |

You give so much through WCG...and probably to some other charity also...there are not much of us which give back to the ones who need & don't have! ![]() |
