It looks like there might soon be a viable vaccine against Ebola - one of the dominant strains anyway,.
----------------------------------------The vaccine is based on a chimpanzee cold virus, called adenovirus 3 (ChAd3), that’s been engineered to produce a viral protein specific to the Zaire Ebolavirus strain from the ongoing outbreak in West Africa. Ideally, it would trick the human immune system into making antibodies to fight this particular strain. A second vaccine against both the Zaire and Sudan strains is also being tested in people. "Many people who join just to participate in OET may also be a bit confused if they go through the trouble of dl'ing and installing BOINC, attaching to the project, only to find that they are getting everything but what they signed up for. I'd like to think that they would consider the other projects here equally worthy, but they may not."
If they are newbs, OF COURSE they don't understand, and you may have turned them off of DC forever. WHY ask for volunteers and then tell them there is no work? Extremely poor planning IMHO Those of us that have been around a while may forgive you, but then again maybe not There are a LOT of projects competing for our CPU cycles. If you are going to disrespect us like this, maybe they deserve the cycles more?? |

Dr. Saphire,
I enjoyed your piece that was included in National Geographic's Breakthrough program. Surprisingly, OET on WCG wasn't mentioned. Was that due to fact it didn't fit into the program context or was it filmed prior to the launch of OET. Once again, enjoyed the brief look inside the lab. |

It appears like the project timeline was pushed out farther.

No, it's just the idiosyncrasy of the way WCG accounts progress... there was an ? amount plugged [5463 batches] to get to a 'maybe' Expected Time of Completion (of anticipated work), where a recent average is taking regardless of long running or short, to extrapolate from. This befalls all projects, so also applies to your CEP2 forum comment where there's hardly been any work done in past 30 days, so the projection goes off the scale.
