I was having trouble with this error on Mac OS X 10.10.1 and found a solution that worked for me. It is based on adding a POGS skynet account without using the boincmanager.
1. create a file named "account_worldcommunitygrid.org.xml" in /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data 2. open the file with a text editor and add the content below: <account> <master_url>http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org</master_url> <authenticator>your_weak_account_key_here</authenticator> <project_name>wcg</project_name> </account> 3. change "your_weak_account_key_here" to your account's weak account key. 4. save the file. 5. restart boincmanager. |

Same here. Got new PC so i decided to run boinc again after year or so, other 5 projects added without problems, but wcg shows this error. I hope it will be resolved in the future.

The workaround, several workarounds in fact are available. Discovered today that even in china they had no problem to get wcg hooked to 7.4.27 for that matter, quite hands on they appear to be. Not wanting to do that two line entry into a command/terminal window, as one wrote 'i wash my hands of this', reads like
---------------------------------------- So happened to discover last week that even early alpha 7.3.8 had the secondary issue of -155 fail on adding wcg. How this ever escaped berkeley testing processes is a complete riddle. They broke it and supposedly have fixed this in the next release after 7.4.27. No indication when a build comes, but a comment speaking of backporting to 7.4 implies they've moved on tio 7.5 alpha development. We await they prompt attention and some wcg technician ribbing of them. Happy crunching, wherever. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 28, 2014 6:10:57 PM] |

Thanks Lavaflow! Moved BOINC to a different location, couldn't reattach to WCG (other projects worked fine) - your commandline method solved my problem.

I tried this and it didn't work but what did work is I copied the file from my old system to my new system.

That worked, thanks!
----------------------------------------Anyone who gets the error -155 trying to attach to wcg with 7.4.x agents on windows, which included me reproducing the issue, needs to follow the instructions as given in this faq: http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/index.php?view=349 1) identify the exact path where the boinc data directory is, printed in the event log at startup, in my case it being g:\boinc\ 2) open a terminal/command window and enter the below, where the quotes are required if there are spaces anywhere in the path names: cd /d "g:\boinc\" 3) enter the boinccmd, again with quotes if there are spaces in the path names of folders where the account key, a 32 character code, is found at 'settings > my profile' on the website. Replace 'accountkey' with your code. "c:\program files\boinc\boinccmd" --project_attach www.worldcommunitygrid.org accountkey The path for 32 bit agent installs on 64 bit windows could also be: "c:\program files (x86)\boinc\boinccmd" --project_attach www.worldcommunitygrid.org accountkey Eight years after the faq was raised there's a regression in at least 7.4.26. Going back to 7.2.42 or 7.2.47 of wcg is the other know solution! ![]() |

Just tested 7.4.32 (Windows 32-bit) and adding WCG through the Manager works correctly now. Of course, being that 7.4.32 is still alpha, it is possible there may be other bugs to discover.
