I am new to using the same PC and switching users so this may be obvious to others:
----------------------------------------I am running the Grid on this PC and it is working fine on my user ID. When I switch to a new user, the BOINC manager pops up a form, saying: 'Select Computer' And wants a Host Name and Password. I have entered my Grid username and password, (Nortnarg) and the form goes away with no result. The BOINC manager does not connect to my Grid account on this new user in Vista. I may be entering the wrong information, as I am not sure what is needed here. Thank you for any help! ![]() |

This would not happen when the agent were installed as service with the 'allow all users' option as well selected during the process. The hostname would by default be localhost and the password could be left blank. In fact if connecting on localhost both fields can be left blank. Just confimed it on mine, but that's a service/all users install.
The password is stored in a file call something like gui_rpc_auth.cfg which sits in the boinc data directory. It's a text file. |

lavaflow, Thanks,
----------------------------------------I entered 'localhost' and that makes BOINC connect to my Grid. BUT, I have to do this each time I switch to that user now. Is there a way to make this action default and avoid the annoyance? ![]() |

Ok, Here is what I have done:
----------------------------------------I uninstalled Boinc while logged into the new user. I re-installed and selected "repair" hoping that would give the option of installing as a service. It did not. Rebooted. Result: No change in switching users. It requires me to select a Hostname (localhost) on any user except the user Boinc was installed on. So, I did a complete removal and uninstall of Boinc. I installed version 7.2.47 (x86) from scratch and selected to install as a service, and to 'allow all users' option. That did not change having to select 'localhost' when switching to a new user. The Boinc client is working fine, but I would much prefer to not have to enter a hostname when switching users. Maybe that is a downfall of sharing one PC between users. All comments and help, of course, are welcome. ![]() |
