THANK you so much - it was wasting a lot of time. I have been running from multiple devices with no problem. But when I tried to add a new device via BOIC Manager v7.4.27(x86), nothing worked until I followed your post. Thanks again - Jon

The same issue exist in the MAC version of the software. WCG left me behind because they stopped supporting Power PC systems years ago I just got something much newer last week and am unable to attach it to the project because of the email_add error. I looked around with Terminal to see if I could apply the instructions already given, but I couldn't find anything like what is described for Windows. Anybody have information on what to do if you are running a MAC?

What OS-X? Then could recommend to fetch the 7.2.42 version of the agent, still on the wcg download page . This one does not have the problem. Can get it here too: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php
----------------------------------------As you can see on latter linked page, there's also a 'command line' version, which could be construed as being the equivalent of what boinccmd can do. @technicians: You might want to get in touch with dr. anderson. Whatever they test to promote a version to 'recommended', it evidently is not testing to see if wcg too remains compatible. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 19, 2014 7:41:32 AM] |

BobCat13 posted to the alpha mail list to say 7.4.22 still worked, any later through 7.4.27 failing. David anderson responded:
I checked in a fix for this. -- David |

I just uncrated the MAC Pro last week so it had 10.10 Yosemite which has just received an update to 10.10.1 about 2 days ago. I don't know for sure but I think there may be some fixes that I might need in the current Boinc release and I also know from SETI that the GPU isn't correctly supported yet.

Hi Dena,
----------------------------------------I managed to install 7.4.23 on Mavericks (all other attempts except of 7.0.65 failed) and it is working fine also on Yosemite. Try it. Cheers and ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Shrubbing@Home since January 5 2006 ![]() |

I started having this problem, also after upgrading to 7.4.27, and have wasted way too much time trying different fixes. Right now, I've decided that if WCG wants my computing time, it will be up to them to resolve this issue - I wash my hands of it, and give myself to other projects.

The fail is entirely in the berkeley testing process and releasing something 'recommended' when they don't check certain procedures against wcg, which has extra security build in. This is why there is the special 7.2.47, code vetted as well, so large organizations will allow their computers to crunch for wcg.
Since the chief developer wrote 'I checked in a fix for this.', see few posts up, it is hopefully something that's tested thouroughly before he tells rom to promote the next build, in fasttrack. Hope to see you back then. |

hi guys, After creating a wcg account and entering the login into the boinc manager -> add project form i get the error "missing or bad parameter: email_addr". does anyone know how i can solve this? thank you Hello all - As others have already mentioned - please use the World Community Grid recommended version of the BOINC software, and this error should stop concurring. Thanks, ErikaT |

Whilst understanding wcg likes to push their 'tried and tested' version, reality is that many new to grid computing do not have their first exposure here, rather have a wandering from another project where they started crunching i.e. have the latest developer recommended release. If you wish to avoid this, wouldn't you, then think wcg needs to do some leaning on berkeley to get it right the first time every time and wcg to become an integral of the standard testing procedure, several extra lines on the testing form to tick: 1) detach and add wcg to agent, 2) fetch work from all it's sub-projects.
