Re: What's with the laziness, why no GPU projects?!?

After reading this thread there are definitely sour grapes due to no GPU projects on WCG (currently that is)

But really, it's been said again and again it's up to the SCIENTISTS to take advantage of GPUs.

Look, I have a wish list too. I'd LOVE to use my Raspberri Pi 3+
with WCG, but there is no ARM support for Linux in the current project list (only support for ARM on Android, and then only I think one project).

If you want the MOST supported BOINC project for your hardware (CPU type and whatever GPU) the best choices are seti@Home and einstein@Home. Sure, they are not biology related but that's about as good as it's gunna get. Evidently writing GPU apps is HARD.

Re: What's with the laziness, why no GPU projects?!?

Just saw that GPUGRID has
11/2/2019 5:28:54 PM | GPUGRID | No tasks are available for Anaconda Python 3 Environment
So if I understand correctly, you could create projects based on Python.
Since Python on GPU is way more easier than OpenCL, you could develop on cpu and then use the GPU.
P.S. I'm not trolling, just played around with tensorflow and numba (took me a couple of months to figure it out) and the GPU overhead is really small

Re: What's with the laziness, why no GPU projects?!?

You might get more GPU work if you post information on where to find inexpensive online courses in OpenCL, especially courses suitable for people with previous programming experience but not in OpenCL. I'm currently looking for such a course.

Re: What's with the laziness, why no GPU projects?!?

I am limited to 32 threads of the CPU type, I could crunch 4 additional GPU threads IF THERE ARE ANY SENT OUT. I can do 2 Intel GPU WUs in 1 hour and approximately 10 AMD GPU WUs in the same time. That would Net 12,000 points an hour. I'm here, waiting, impatiently!

Today I had a small OPNG 'moment', as if a OPNG-task had been running, when some OPN1-workunit contained only one job and took less than a minute to complete:

Re: What's with the laziness, why no GPU projects?!?

Where oh where have the GPU WUs gone? I really do not know who to write to to complain, beg cajole or even threaten.
You see I have two eight core i9 macs both with twin GPU cards and when there were plenty of GPU work I was earning between 1 and 1.5 million points a day. Now, crawling speed.
Please, please keep the GPU WUs coming. I am waiting but not patiently.

Why don't you at least try and follow the news. Just a few days it has been posted that there is a project related reason why there are no GPU tasks (OPNG). No need and no use to "threaten" anyone. WCGs purpose is not just to satisfy some point [REDACTED FOR INSULTING TERM]...
