1: I believe in the past it has been explained that the scientists have control of the research software, not WCG.
2: How long are you all going to continue to beat this dead horse? |

Coleslaw wrote Why not just offer CUDA assistance now? Nothing says the application has to be OpenCL. Simply put, OpenCL runs on AMD and Nvidia GPUs. CUDA only works with Nvidia. For a BOINC project, you want an app that all of your users can use rather than only half. The only reason to use a CUDA app is if it's a legacy application and no OpenCL version is available. Not entirely true. It would be better to offer a CUDA application for GPU (thus only supporting nVidia) then no GPU applications at all. Use the tools that you have. You can figure out OpenCL later if you really want to. In theory you are right. Realistically, not so much. 1. Have I missed something in the past several years? Were there sciences offering CUDA applications but WCG and/or IBM rejected them because WCG policy accepts OpenCL only? 2. Agree with Shaky Jake: How long are you all going to continue to beat this dead horse? ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. WCG should NEVER have posted that you could use your GPU to process WCG work units for certain projects. Since they knew that they did not have any GPU applications, they blatantly LIED about it. End of story. No worries though. There are plenty of other BOINC projects that use GPU applications to process their work units.

Hello rcthardcore,There were GPU-enabled World Community Grid projects in past years, there just aren't any currently running projects with GPU-enabled work units. It is up to the researchers on each project to build GPU-enabled work units for the projects. Thank you for your support, ErikaT |

Hope that we get some Project to do it in near future...
There are thousands of WCG crunchers read and crazy to put GPUs to do work for any Project interested in ! So let improve this information more aloud and away, specially in universities labs and reaearch centers, including the researchers teams involved with the active projects that we have in WCG just now... ![]() |

I'm waiting some jobs to do too.
----------------------------------------Maybe one day they'll give us some. (you realy got 19443 post ? OMG !)
My GPU compute WUs as fast as I'm crushing bubble wrap.

Over the years, I did mention it several time: the biggest problem with GPU is the computation accuracy. GPUs - per se - do not compute accurately since the main GPU focus is on the ability to compute very fast, using some mathematical approximations for reaching this goal.
----------------------------------------Depending on the science and on the required computation accuracy, a GPU implementation represents a real challenge, otherwise we will have to read plenty of member complaints because of a huge number of invalid results ... Definitively, GPU is not like a CPU, in particular regarding the arithmetic unit and its accuracy (and reproducibility). Cheers, Yves |
