Simap are well respected reference resource in the science community, continuing their new engine based database and continuing to make that resource publicly available. The old one build on present will discontinue by eoy, as in it remains accessible but will not be maintained with new gene similarity mappings. Well, at least we can agree on one thing: I also don't care about your opinions. I am reading them, occasionally respond to them, but that is all. Since I am not a part of the science community mentioned by you, I reserve the right to question SIMAP's motives to part with BOINC and get in relation with Samsung. They (members of the team) will benefit from such change, mankind might benefit from it as well, but, please, don't try to convince me that they (members of SIMAP team) are doing it in the name of humanity. ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Simap are well respected reference resource in the science community, continuing their new engine based database and continuing to make that resource publicly available. The old one build on present will discontinue by eoy, as in it remains accessible but will not be maintained with new gene similarity mappings. I'm sure that SIMAP has it's reasons, probably moving away from the broadband expenses of a BOINC setup is chief among them. They have more than adequately explained the move on their homepage : SIMAP will leave BOINC by end of 2014 SIMAP is currently moving towards new algorithms for similarity calculations and scoring. After extensive tests and evaluations during the last months it turned out that the best way to continue SIMAP will be to use dedicated local hardware in our institute. SIMAP will therefore use BOINC only to maintain the current SIMAP database until the end of 2014. BOINC clients for the new SIMAP database will not be released and there will be no workunits for SIMAP after 2014. After 10 very successful years of SIMAP within BOINC this decision was not an easy one for us. However, we thank all users for their support in the past and in the upcoming last period until the end of the year. SIMAP has been one of my favorite projects for years and when the project is over, I hope to be a T100 cruncher. ![]() |
